Kobe is still under contract....when it's time for him to be a free agent you'll see how many teams want to sign him (just like AI)
Iverson would have been fine if he decided to come off the bench, media is not to blame for team not offering him the starting position. Media is also telling Kobe to retire or should have retired 3 years ago everyday, the only reason he still starts is because he has played 20 years for Lakers. Has to do more with Philly than media
5 rings, a couple olympics, the only time Iverson played is the only time we've lost.
He's won too many hearts to get ran out, he's been dealing with injuries and he's probably the most known and biggest name in the league WW after Lebron right now.
Kobe is accomplished
Iverson is not
Kobe averaged 27-6-6 and carried a team to the playoffs before being injured
Iverson was....Well, we don't know where he was![]()
Because their teams don't care??? Are you really arguing this?? lol. Blame Sixers organization for not doing what Lakers/Wolves are doing. And come off the bench at memphis, he had a problem with that. Sixers also let him come back and he only played 50 before leaving again..although that was for his daughter illness. So you can say he did get a chance to close out his career.lol @ "just like AI". theres no comparison between the two situations.
for starters, kobe is a couple bad games away from being "injured" and sitting down for a while. theres no free agency 2016 for him.
more importantly, iverson was never at this stage that kobe is currently in. a better comparison to '10 iverson is '13 kobe.'10 iverson got blackballed out of the league while '13 kobe got a ridiculous contract that crippled the lakers.
come off the bench behind whom?
iverson had no problem coming off the bench behind a better player or at least a player on a good team thats in his talent range. instead, they were trying to get iverson to come off the bench behind dudes on bad teams that couldnt lace his boots at the time. SMARTEN UP.
AND WHY ISNT KOBE COMING OFF THE BENCH!!!??? WHY DONT YOU EXPLAIN THAT ONE!!!!??
hell, does kevin garnett even come off the bench yet? he'll play like 10 minutes, shoot 5 shots and call it a night but hes still starting.
the nba blatantly did iveron dirty.
we blaming the olympics on iverson now?
this has to be the dumbest post thus far.
you remember a 1st round exit to the defensively-challenged suns, but you dont remember iverson carrying a team to the nba finals?
im not even into these stan arguments so dont even bother responding.
Let's take that to be true (which it isn't), that still has nothing do with why Kobe's still in the league - which is what this thread is about.
That gets into a lot more hypotheticals than we can clearly define. I don't know if Kobe would still be a Laker if they hadn't won. I'm sticking to what we can judge without using imagination and that's Iverson being villainized by the media from the beginning and Kobe being treated like a golden child from the beginning. There is no evidence that suggests the media would have ever favored Iverson over Kobe.
Iverson ran himself out the league in my opinion.
Heard he was still hittin the bottle hard when he was playing overseas.
No NBA team wants to deal with that, which is why Cuban only offered him a chance in the D-League to prove himself.
What are you like 28, and you're speaking as if you're 40. Stop with the omniscient Solon act, everyone done wised up to your facade years ago.
"The machine" (cotdamn you're corny turning this into some hawk and run type shyt) wouldn't have been behind him if he flamed out during the late 90s/early 00s and the Lakers went without a Championship. He would've been traded (for another elite wing like TMac to partner Shaq) and all this machination that you seem to think is the cause for him still being in the league wouldn't exist, because he'd be out of a starting role before you even had the inkling to walk down this path.
WHO THE fukk IS GIVING KOBE A FAREWELL PARADE?
Where the hell are you getting this from? Do you pay attention to anything that's going on in the league today or are you transfixed by how he was treated half a decade ago as an ode to keeping AI's memory alive by attacking the easiest opponent?

I think it's safe to say that Kobe would have never been in the position to secure a 48 mil/two-year extension at 35 if he didn't have the success he did in LA - which would therefore mean this thread wouldn't exist. You really think they would've kept Kobe for 20 years and reward him with 50 mil on his way out, if he didn't win shyt? C'mon breh. That gets into a lot more hypotheticals than we can clearly define. I don't know if Kobe would still be a Laker if they hadn't won.
The evidence of winning. Kobe wouldn't even by in a position to be favored over anyone, because he would no longer be playing in the NBA. This conversation as both sides stand wouldn't take place if Iverson was the one with five rings in LA, and Kobe was the lone wolf in Philly.I'm sticking to what we can judge without using imagination and that's Iverson being villainized by the media from the beginning and Kobe being treated like a golden child from the beginning. There is no evidence that suggests the media would have ever favored Iverson over Kobe.
Sixers traded him away..lol @ nothing to do with it. Pistons/Grizzlies didn't owe shyt to AI, if Kobe was on any other team right now he would be benched..same with KG, but this is the benefit of playing on a team for this long. You stated media ran him out, now you are blaming teams? Which one is it?these dudes dont want to acknowledge this.
thats why they keep trying to create these hypothetical diversions.
nobody wants to deal with kobe either.
why dont they offer his ass a d-league contract to prove himself?
lol @ a 1st ballot hof'er having to "prove himself".
meanwhile, garnett and kobe out here starting, simply off the strength of their names.
im 30 and ive been following ball since kobe was in middle school. whats the big deal?
i called you out on being young, or maybe just late to the game, because youre exposing yourself with alot of your posts.
dont get mad at me. be upset with yourself.
do you watch television?
lol.
you dont see the big deal theyre making over alot of these games, for instance those games at the nets & knicks?
blame the sixers for what?
iverson started on the sixers from what i remember.
it was the pistons trying to make iverson into a scapegoat that started that mess, and it carried over to memphis.
sixers have nothing to do with this.
This coming from the dude that believes the WNBA has more star power than the NBA.im 30 and ive been following ball since kobe was in middle school. whats the big deal?
i called you out on being young, or maybe just late to the game, because youre exposing yourself with alot of your posts.

They're not making a big deal over a lot of those games. Kobe's existence right now is being drowned out by the noise of the Warriors' dominance. Whenever he's been mentioned this season it's usually to do with how poor he's been playing.do you watch television?
lol.
you dont see the big deal theyre making over alot of these games, for instance those games at the nets & knicks?
It's less hypothetical diversions and more illustrating as to why he's still in the league in his 20th season playing for the same team.these dudes dont want to acknowledge this.
thats why they keep trying to create these hypothetical diversions.
The salary amount doesn't have anything to do with this. There are quite a few examples of guys playing a lot of years with one team without winning (Karl Malone). There also examples of old guys who never won but still got new contracts with other teams they had no ties with (Malone, again). I don't see anything that suggests Kobe would have been kicked out of town or forced to retire early if he could still play.I think it's safe to say that Kobe would have never been in the position to secure a 48 mil/two-year extension at 35 if he didn't have the success he did in LA - which would therefore mean this thread wouldn't exist. Dude is a hall of famer..Comparing a (Peasant)Iverson to a King(Kobe)![]()
