Why isn't there a single great soccer player from the US?

True but it sure as hell helps. :heh:
Peyton Manning isnt an elite athlete. Dude is 6'5 and cant dunk :skip:

Tom Brady is slow as fukk

Andre Miller can barely get off the floor when he jumps, still plays decently

ZBo couldnt jump over a notebook, still beasts

Tim Duncan isnt an elite athlete either and look at what he's able to do.

David Ortiz is fat as fukk, still playing at a good level

Then you look at guys like JR Smith, Tyrus Thomas, Stromile Swift, Gerald Green was shyt early in his career til he learned how to handle the ball and shoot. Same with John Wall, as soon as he learned to control his speed he improved.

I agree. Its not everything. There are many athletes that get by without it . But like I said, it helps. I would not put Messi or Ronaldo in that group of unathletic players. At all.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
Even with all the impediments you would think a country with a population of 330+ million would have produced ONE football savant at some point. An undeniably prodigious talent, a dude that just simply was born to play on some, "Talent for the Game," shyt. It kind of boggles my mind that it has never happened, to be honest.

In some ways, I think it's like Klinsmann said the other day -- soccer actually tells you something about the culture of a country. Each country has their own distinct style of play. I think the American "style" might always be this non-technical, grind it out game. :yeshrug:

I wonder why though? Our basketball teams have always played a wide open, fast paced game in international comp.

America is just used to being a bully :yeshrug:Our best athletes are generally more athletic than the rest of the world. Soccer players in America are our 5th tier athletes. The best athletes play football, basketball, baseball. Even Hockey, track & field, swimming, golf, lacrosse probably have larger followings than soccer in America. I know their is a large mental aspect to the game but you can't downplay generations of great athletes ignoring soccer. Brazil, Italy and all these other world teams worship the sport growing up. USA could care less. We have pretend enthusiasm every four years

I'm a soccer idiot, so i admit I dont know much about the sports but you cant tell me that some freaky athletes like shady mccoy or reggie bush wouldnt tear it up in the open field if they were taught properly. Or some giant calvin johnson, dez bryant type guy could head the shyt out of a ball.
do you think it's a sure thing that these same athletes you named would also be great at hitting a baseball or a golf ball? There are different skill sets required to dominate the game of futbol. Since you guys keep bringing up the African American athlete, ask yourself why no African country has ever made it far.

Think about this for a second - just because you know how to run with a ball (RB) or catch a ball (WR) or throw a ball (QB), doesn't mean you're going to excel at a sport in the same way an athlete like Messi does that can actually act as a QB and a RB at the same time.

AND the short attention span of fans of that culture that think the game must be wack if there are only a few goals

you could say the same about any country with hundreds of millions of people and ask why they havent produced any elite basketball or football players.
why arent there any elite chinese basketball players, or elite chinese football players
why arent there any indians in soccer, basketball or football. or baseball
why arent there elite japanese or russian players in the nba or nfl.

it really is as simple as the lack of interest and lack of incentive growing up. having gone thru gradeschool and college i didnt know ONE good athlete during middle school or high school that had any interest in soccer, it was usually all the short mexicans and white dudes that couldnt play baseball, football or basketball that were into soccer. and then nobody gave a shyt about the soccer team either :russ: everyone was hyped for football, baseball and basketball. even track and field got more coverage when i was in school than soccer.

when you think of the wide variety of sports that are available in the US, it really does filter out a lot of great athletes from the population. compare that to england for example, a country that doesnt have the many professional leagues the US does, and the fact that they are crazy about soccer means that more kids will grow up wanting to be soccer players. because playing for manchester united >>>>> playing for the ny red bulls :flabbynsick:

You dont even understand soccer, so your post wont be shyt. You're an idiot. Point blank. Again, in a soccer thread talking out of your ass.

1 -i dont know shyt bout soccer
2 -but i do know about the country i was born & raised in
3 -name calling on the net is played out
4 -its less about soccer more about how the great US athlete chooses his sport
5 -how can i be talking out my ass (when i basically gave a no comment)
