The director's chair or 'couch' is something that every promising artist HAS to come across if they want to achieve greater fame and success with the industry's help. I have a few family members that refused to sit in the directors chair and therefore, didn't achieve the fame they wanted and eventually they quit music shortly after. They said it went against everything they stood for.

And he's had a string of great albums, he's also improved significantly as a rapper

Basically he didn't get fukked by the white man and when I say 'fukked' I don't mean gay shyt I mean he didn't change his persona. He stuck with a sound that gave him a specific audience and kept it that way instead of switching up.
