Competition would force improvements. How much exactly is hard to say...
But one thing is for certain, they wouldn't have the luxury of investigating their own wrong doing. :rudy:
Competition? :what: How exactly would this work? Hundreds to thousands of dudes with their families moving around like migrants trying to land contracts? Or some private equity firm hiring rent a cops at minimum wage?

And yea, they surely wouldn't do their own investigating.... they'd handpick a group of nobodies selected by the politicians they bribe to get their contracts. And even if they were found guilty of something, no worries- they'd be LLCs or full on corporations who would just give plaintiffs the runaround and legal attrition wave until they give up

Sounds like a dream :camby: U need to get therapy to work on your "private industry" tic

Similar to govt. construction contracts now... with private law enforcement firms bidding for county or state contracts. The point being that a force could be terminated and replaced by another force, should the people being served desire it.
Having to bribe a politician to get a favorable investigation, is already more than they have to do now... :deadrose:
In theory the police union would lose power as well, weakening the iron wall of protection that surrounds cops now...

:whoa:Its not a fix all, and I'm sure you can point out a few more problems if you tried, but the question is how is it worse than what we have now?:usure:

Govt contracts? U mean those black holes of waste and overpayment? Im sure if I searched I could find u tearing those down, now they are your only saving grace for private police forces

The system we have now could work well with reform. The system you propose would just yield more opportunities for abuse and corruption without addressing the framework it would have to operate in.

@DEAD7 is too polite. He is debating without the need to throw personal attacks unlike his adversaries.

I may not always agree with whatever breh says but I enjoy going back and forth with him because he keeps it respectable. I don't think I've ever seen him attempt a personal attack upon anyone.

First I want to be clear, you are comparing the U.S. side by side with Iraq and insinuating that because it didnt work in Iraq, it cant work here?

I believe he's referencing private military contractors like Blackwater, as I did earlier in the thread.

I agree :pachaha:. Even though we disagree on some things, I enjoy having discussions with the breh.

Military contractors are not beholden to a community the way a police force is, but I get the point... and think it would still be better than what we have now.

From what I can gather, most of you are willing to throw an improvement in the bushes if it isnt a perfect solution.
:patrice: Not really sure there is anything more I can say, since no system will be perfect... and judging by how no one has been able to clearly state how it would be worse than our current system, Ill just have to accpet that we aren't ready for such a bold idea.

Maybe I'm a pessimist but the possibility of a company policing
the people just sounds like it'd be wide open for corruption, even more
so than the system we already have.

I'd much rather we deal with the devil we know and implement some sort
of system that forces accountability, camera's on officers is a good start.
We don't have to rely on "he said, she said" retelling's of an event that could
be twisted by the media. Imagine a case where Darren Wilson can't worm
himself out of a shytty situation by relying on the public's on prejudices because
it's all on tape !

I simply cannot urge everyone enough to think deeply about the issue, the institution of police (its origin and role in society), and racism. Something as small as body cams will not solve the problem.

:yeshrug: No matter how you look at it or try to change the system, you can't expect justice from them. It's inherent.

The only solution I believe is to make the laws stricter on the police. Give them no grey areas to work with.
