I understand originally MTV stood for "Music Television".. but it makes no sense for them to play videos anymore. They have separate channels that play only videos, plus you can find videos on Youtube, and other internet websites.

Downloading music is not stealing. There's never been any proof of it.

Most people on the coli haven't bought a cd since 2003 (check the big biz threads) and most probably a DVD since fast broadband came out, id say it directly effects sales.

Apparently rick Ross is a big star, he barely goes gold, bavk on the day canibis and boot camp clik easily went gold, think about that.

It can't truly be called theft nor be associated with a decline in sales for a certain product. Even the MPAA thinks this.
:aicmon: stop it

Napster/leaked albums and the ipad(which got people into single songs and not entire albums) killed off the music industry. of course the record labels were arrogant at first and they could've been better prepared for the internet age but the leaked album and free downloads sent it to its deathbed.

-think about it, you're getting an album for free instead of paying for it. you don't think that would hurt or ruin an artist and record label in the long run?? Do you think a supermarket chain would stay in business if they gave away 50% of their product for free every day?

Everything seemed to be on point. However, I have to object to that whole "my generation" claim;I was in the fifth or sixth grade when napster dropped, ya bish. Blame the nikkas born in the early eighties for the mass downloading that took place during that time period.lol.

:aicmon:

Dude is obviously talking about the older heads and not 5th graders from that time period. :snoop:

Ross is still a multi millionaire I'm sure he's fine

I think most people these days buy things they appreciate and download everything else. But there's no tangible way to tie piracy to decline. You won't find it. There's other factors to it. So to put all the blame on downloading is just guest work. Maybe it's just hip hop and rock though because it looks like other genres are doing fine. Some of the blame has to also be put on the quality itself which is better than a few years ago but really not as good as it once was.

You're right the ability to download single songs damaged album sales. However legal digital sales are booming, people just aren't willing to drop $15 on an album when they just want a few songs. Nobody feels like getting played like that anymore.

You guys also forget about sites like Youtube, Spotify, and Rhapsody. Those sites have just as much to do as the blogs and dl sites do. Artists are still making crazy money and their music is heard more than every before.

nikka shutup....its stealing. be real about it :aicmon:
Copyright infringement is not theft. theft implies you suffer a loss.

if somebody steals your car then you owned that car and they took it from you. you suffered a loss. if somebody downloads your album the loss is more than debatable. you have to assume that everyone that downloads your album would have bought it if they couldn't download it to suffer loss.

there are plenty of people who download shyt they'd never buy. if it wasn't available for download they just wouldn't have it.

if i download an album illegally then paypal the artist $10 bucks directly and include in the payment for album X did i steal from them? of course that cuts the greedy record label out of the loop...

Like he says if you borrow a movie from a friend did you steal that movie? you got to see it but you didn't pay the rights holders a dime. you got to see their movie for free.

if you buy a used game the rights holders don't get anything off that purchase. is that ethical too?

is it ethical for you to buy a movie then sell it on eBay/? somebody else made that movie and you by the same extreme example of a download is theft took a paying customer off the market that now they can't get a purchase from because you undercut the new retail price.

calling downloading theft is a slippery slope.

The artists should just do what bill burr and Louis ck have done, just sell it on their website direct for 5 dollars, I normally would've d/l bills shyt, but seeing as he said if we buy it he will make more, if he doesn't make money, he'll never release another one.

I bought it,I bet many didn't, but I think I was more inclined to buy it from him personally and it was £3.50p, I ain't even watched it yet, but I don't want him to stop making specials.
