Agreed.
They wrote themselves into a corner when they created Ezio. He's right above John Marston from Red Dead Redemption last gen as far as great protagonist goes. Edward was cool to me because his character at least showed growth.
He went from "Get rich or die trying," to actually fighting for something other than his pockets.
I think they just messed up a bit by making the change from pirate to assassin so late in the game.
By the time he finishes chasing fame and fortune, 85% of the storyline is over.
The tidbit with his daughter and his reflection at the end was well written, too. He isn't Ezio, but at least he wasn't Connor.
