Why some owners should care about winning?

As a Football fan (the one played all over the world), I don't really understand the American sporting system...

If I'm the owner of, for example, Oklahoma Thunder, why should I want my team to win?... I mean if Los Angeles Lakers (a bigger bigger market) is more successful than my team, that will mean more money for the NBA and therefore for me.

Why Should I care if my business is not at risk because there's not even a pro / rel system.

Is the communist system of US sports more competitive than the pure capitalism of Football? Am I missing something?

Well, some people are competitive, they're in it to win it. It also builds your company with the exposure that comes with winning and no to mention all of the money that comes with that. Why WOULDNT an owner want to win?

Goatganda the pearl of Africa
Look at the blue jays, few years ago were drawing 10,000 fans a game, and average tv rTings, last year they had a winning season made it to the playoffs

Now draeing 40,000 plus a game, ticket prices are higher,ad money higher

I think the more interesting question is why socialist ideas like revenue sharing and luxury taxes are so beloved in our sporting environments and so despised in our social and economic policy.

You have a good point, I thought the same thing after listening to a planet money podcast on how futbol is set up. But the reality is, there is no consequence for being losers, and a losing franchise. That's why teams tank like hell to try to get a better draft pick, because the attitude is so what if they do.

But all that shyt as far as I know goes to the league revenue, which is then shared between all the teams.
Still more money overall
I'm sure they have incentives for winning more
Also there's pride and competition involved, would u rather have a winning team or a shytty one

They are business men, they prefer money more than anything.

Does it? I thought the local deals were not shared like the national deals. I guess it would make sense that they were, because then smaller markets would be at an even greater disadvantage.

It's not a bad point. Take the Yankees for instance. They make money hand over fist, but the product currently is average. It would be in their best interest for them to sell at this years trade deadline, but the suits above would rather this season drag on as long as possible with the hope of pushing for the playoffs because more people will attend the games.
