The studio put a bigger microscope on his work, people are expecting him to do monumental things now, even bigger than what he’s been doing.

Not only is he going backward, but he’s bragging on it - showing off that he writes everything, shooting movies in less than a week - he needs to elevate and fast.

They still mad about that movie when that cheating wife got HIV:blessed:

I’m dead.
:dead:

That movie was one of his better films. The only thing that was weird about that movie is that he ridiculously aged her, as if she became elderly after getting hiv.

He always does too much with his endings. I saw that Taraji Henson one last year, Acrimony. shyt had me rolling laughing. Funny Thing is that it had potential until the ending when shyt became entirely too unrealistic.

I see much of his work as wasted potential. I don’t get it but don’t care enough. His movies are drunk watching, laughing material

Nobody stopping her from offering an alternative movie source. :manny:
But there was one part that stood out to me before any of these praises began. When Perry took to the stage, he admitted in jest that he has a hesitation toward showing his movies in New York and Los Angeles because we have a tendency to be “bougie,” and he urged us to disavow ourselves of this attitude for the rest of the night. As I sat in the balcony with my pen and notebook in hand, getting ready to pick apart the film scene by scene, I felt both recognized and indicted. In that moment, Perry touched upon a rupture between himself and the bourgeoisie that has cast a shadow over his work since the beginning of his career. I, as a critic and journalist, find myself unable to reconcile this divide.

He depicts an underrepresented part of society, and he’s done it well through instant resonance with the characters, the cackles, and the religiosity.

this tells me all i need to know about her. Tyler Perry basically "hit dog hollered" her ass live and in person. She sat her ass up there ready to hate and he took a preemptive strike. :pachaha:

And at the end of the day, the big thing about Tyler Perry Studios is that the studio gets used by other people and he brings in revenue that way, it's not about him making better movies.

He's gotten to a point where he doesn't need the old establishment as much. That establishment will use it's connections in media to sow doubt about everything he does, inevitably they'd want to protect themselves. He can either get his own media to fight back, or hush and let the money roll in from his ownership, or best option: make better content that they can't complain about no matter how hard they try.

That last one will take some doing.

You know why

Don’t play dumb

im no fan of Winston Jerome but when a bruh makes a power move like that in Hollywood you already know the gate keepers will use the media to disparage the bruh for being in a position to employ black actors and handle multiple movie productions..

Me neither..

But keep it 100. They never cared for the dude, why now?

Oh - but she did care for th dude, doe...as she says:

When I moved away from my small town and went on to Princeton, it was the first time in my life that I’d come across other Black women who not only disliked Tyler Perry’s work, but repelled his entire oeuvre. At the same time, I was learning new vocabulary for old problems: misogyny, misogynoir, emotional labor, heteronormativity, systemic racism, systemic sexism, gaslighting. I became empowered.

The further I moved along in my erudition, the further away I moved from Tyler Perry’s work. It wasn’t just the characters I couldn’t relate to, it was the story itself — not because I didn’t recognize it, but because I made an effort to move away and work toward a better one. I wanted successful Black women to be loved just the way they were; I wanted men to be held more accountable for the harm they do to women aside from cheating; and I wanted more complicated and contradictory love stories to be a part of our Black lives.

Basically, she liked Tyler Perry's work before she moved to The Big City, got that White Lady Schooling Tricknowledge, and met Black folk that dared to be different from the ones she knew in Gator Hide, FL.
So now, when she goes to Tyler Perry movies she wants them to not be Tyler Perry movies.
