But the studios opened this year though..

Let the man figure some things out on his own 1st, then I think he'll roll out new opportunities and content as time go along..

Why do black people have patience with everyone else but their own?

It's not about a lack of patience breh, it's about this nikka seeming to learn the wrong lessons from his success.

He posted some tweet with a picture of a script, and he captioned it with "work ethic".

We've seen dudes work, and now it's not just his detractors, but his day ones that are tasting the splenda.

Nothing dude has communicated, has given the impression of him chasing excellence.

Nikkas can rant negatively all day about trash musicians who are terrible but they're eating, but the second we apply the same standard to this 6'5 310 lb padded corset and wig wearing zestball, we hating just to hate?

He's a black man who's excelled, n that's dope.

Now, all the skeptical are waiting/asking for is the excellence.

I actually read the article unlike most here and...it's actually pretty fair and on point. To the point that I've seen these general points on the Coli for years and those posts received lots of daps. Remember the Perry v Spike threads?

I respect Perry for his accomplishments. He definitely brings to light idealogies and characters who mirror black people we all know, who Hollywood ignores. But his films are largely...not good. His writing is largely...not good. When you compare his work to black films like Moonlight it becomes apparent that his shyt is really "off" on multiple artistic levels. Director wise it reminds me of soap operas, Law & Order, or the Star Wars prequels where damn nearly every scene is just a back and forth stagnant camera shot of two people talking, with zero camera movement or cinematic vision.

End of the day a lot of black people are getting great experience on his platforms. Making this all about writer rooms is short sighted. He's got black directors, cinematographers, make up artists, set designers, musicians, etc all on his sets getting experience and making films/tv/etc. If he wants to write his own shyt so be it...the fact that there's now a studio where black creatives can work is the important thing, and eventually writers will get their chance too.

Tbh, I'm not a fan of Tyler Perry movies but I never got the hate. He is one man who has the means and resources to hire black actors and actresses and get them work anytime they probably need it. Also he is a black man making it somewhat outside of Hollywood cabal. How can you hate on that at least. His movies trash ok but I can't hate the man.

you're right. But let me say this. House of Payne is one of the longest running black sitcoms. But not one person puts it on the level of FResh prince, Cosby, or even Family matters. I like Have and have nots. however, Tyler perry's writing could use improvement. Just because your show got renewed doesn't mean you can't work on your craft.

I could understand this if this is what the writer of the article was saying - but it ain't.
What she focused on wanting wasn't quality- she wants different kinds of stories about different kinds of people than Tyler Perry usually features. She said so herself.

That mindset is often followed by stagnation, which then is followed by collapse.

If more and more people are speaking out against his product, only a fool would ignore public sentiment.

All people are asking for is quality/quality control.
And nikkas are acting like people are asking dude to fund the next Star Wars or something.
All dude has to do, is create an imprint studio, to give people who expect more than a TP production level filmmaking.
Give upncomers a small inexpensive playground n see what they spin.

But here's the thing - he absolutely doesn't "have to" do that.

This broad that wrote this article can spend her money on writers and movies however she wishes when she gets her own film studio. Dig - those up-and-comers she wants more films from will have no problem getting funding/support for the kind of movies she's asking for here. Please believe it.

Some of us been skeptical about Perry for a long time tho.
With the studio tho, his profile went up dramatically, and now people are hoping for a black movie/media mecca of utmost quality.

And Perry as up to now, clearly isn't aiming for the same thing.
A black Hollywood if you will, to combat the mass whiteness of real Hollywood.

Some clearly feel bamboozled in their past support.

That ain’t it. The same nikkas criticizing him now have for the most part been the same people criticizing him from Day One and it blows my mind that this shyt is given oxygen by people that should know better. This dude literally built himself up from NOTHING to be the only black person on the planet to own a major film studio and there are people who can’t stand it because they feel that he doesn’t deserve his success because 1.) He didn’t waste six figures on bullshyt degrees 2.) he’s not doing films that revolve around or speak to them and 3.) he doesn’t even attempt to placate their apparent feelings that he owes them anything whatsoever.

He built an empire making movies for people like my mother and he’s said on multiple occasions that if you don’t like what he’s doing, he’s not mad about it and that’s your prerogative, just watch something else. It really is that simple. But to see random ass people on Twitter say what a man who is reportedly worth $600 million NEEDS to do in regards to his creative process in fukkin’ INSANE!!!!!!!

I mean, what the fukk are we talking about?!?!

Which makes the criticism even more funny considering these people are the type who LOVE seeing Black men dress up like a female making a fool of themselves. I wonder if TP was gay, would the article writer and others like her have the same energy? :jbhmm:

They still mad about that movie when that cheating wife got HIV:blessed:
Lowkey, I feel like that was his best movie ( with Acrimony). After Temptations is when people especially black women turned against his product, and ever since everybody says his work is trash but the funny thing is that prior to that movie, most black people loved his films/tv shows.

I remember how black people loved his early movies & tv shows along with all those Madea plays, etc.

You get it..

He's a capitalist.. So he's offering a product that people like..

I might not like the nikka, but i know other people of my kind like him, so i let those who do congregate..

I may want the guy to do more positive movies, but he rocking with his battered women crew right now..

Let them cook..

Just when we're reminding him to don't forget the audience over here, don't be condescending when you do it.
