He was upset with the way Bird treated Hibbert. West is the ultimate teammate, gonna stick up for his guys and didn't want to be in that environment anymore. Then he looked at other destinations and took the opportunity to play for a contender

I'm guessing you're kidding but I'll address this anyway. It's not about the material. Winning a championship is validating every athlete's purpose in life. Athletes are judged on their ability to win. For some of these guys if they fail to win it all, it's the equivalent of being an utter failure. It's like building a billion-dollar jet but it never gets to take off. All that potential but never good enough to go as high as it should've.

I dunno if you have a dream or a passion, but there's some drives that exist within people that are inexplainable and illogical to others, but if people don't go for them, all the material things in the world can't fill that void.

So players that don't take paycuts are stupid because they're already rich?

I'm not against either. But him picking something he doesn't have over something he already has plenty of should be understandable.

Again, y'all nikkaz are fukking dumb.

I think what everybody is missing is that Pop probably assured him that he would get another multi-year deal after this one, once the organization gets some more financial flexibility. It still might not make up for the 11 million, but a future new deal might close that gap a lot. He may be losing 11 million THIS coming season, but over the next 3 years or so he might be out of pocket 2-3 mill or something like that.

The NBA is a BUSINESS! Owners ain't trying to take a loss in money so why the fukk would you? The LA Clippers were a TERRIBLE franchise for 20 years.. Dude purchased the team for like 2m and sold the team for 2 BILLION! Nobody cared if the team won a championship.. I rather give money to my third cousin than let some white man eat off me.

Why does it offend you so much that an athlete made a personal decision to take a $6m (after taxes) paycut to try and win a championship?

Are you aware of his financial situation? Are you aware of his assets? Do you know what stocks are in his portfolio? Do you know if he has an interest in existing businesses? Are you his portfolio manager?

You have people who have never earned $100k before criticize a multi-millionaire for foregoing a couple million dollars for an opportunity to achieve something based on merit - i.e. something that can't be bought. He wants to retire an NBA champion.

The money that he is foregoing is still going to end up in the hands of another player. So it's not about "letting a white man eat off of him".

It is a one year deal right?

Maybe West and Spurs have a verbal agreement. If West and the Spurs do well and they go far, I assume West will ask for a $15 million contract. If not and West is still healthy he can always get another deal in another team.

This is assuming West will not suffer some kind of career ending injuring and the Spurs will do well. As I write this, I am realizing how much a gamble West is dealing with. I personally wouldn't do it and that is too much money to leave on the table.

This.

nikka has made over 90 mill and he left 6 mill on the table, not 10. Told you clowns about those Texas taxes

But you minimum wage nikkas keep talking millionaire finances :mjlol:
That's besides and beyond the point. The owners use this type of thing to convince players they should be a "good boy" and cut them a break. When the GM or anyone in the front office takes a pay cut or when they pay the luxury tax to go above and beyond to pay a player, you let me know.

David West is a stand up guy, and was the leader of that Pacer team each time they Made the ECF. Him standing up for Hibbert when the whole world was shytting on him and leaving that money on the table just speaks for his character. That said Indiana will be okay, Monta Ellis and Rodney Stucky actually took less money to sign with the Pacers so you can't really say people don't want to play there. David West helped changed that when he became the first "Big Name" Free Agent to sign there a few years back
