You know the stereotype of athletes going broke after retirement is bad when you got nikkas flamin a dude who's made 90 mil over his career for taking a paycut at an age where some players retire.

what am I missin? Is David west a superstar in this league? Was nikkas really checkin for west like that? Was yall losin sleep over David fukkin west? Is this the first time in nba history someone took a 10+ mil pay cut?

Im sorry but this should be illegal

The media has pressured these guys into overvaluing winning

Turn down 11.5 million dollars :dahell:

Not over the life of a contract, but over one year :damn:

Miami heat would have given him big minutes. Theyre a contender.
Nobody wants to be Patrick Ewing or Charles Barkley breh.

It is a one year deal right?

Maybe West and Spurs have a verbal agreement. If West and the Spurs do well and they go far, I assume West will ask for a $15 million contract. If not and West is still healthy he can always get another deal in another team.

This is assuming West will not suffer some kind of career ending injuring and the Spurs will do well. As I write this, I am realizing how much a gamble West is dealing with. I personally wouldn't do it and that is too much money to leave on the table.

Even with his career earnings around 85 mil, this paycheck would have accounted for around 13% of his total career earnings

We need to stop acting like he left 2 mil on the table, 11 mil breh

This is pretty unprecedented I believe? Dont know why people are wondering why its perplexing to some

Don't they tax the shyt outta NBA players tho? It's not like he was gonna get a check for a straight 11 mil. After taxes he probably looking at 5-6 mil.

He probably figures he can afford to take that hit for a chance to be happy and out of Indy.

They can keep stacking that team, I still like our chances against any team in 7. I'm sure he would've came here but we have too many 4's already.

Spurs still need a shooter, a PG and another big

West is a great value signing but he isn't defending pick and rolls and protecting the rim.

Duncan is their only rim protector

“What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension,” said Popovich. “There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I’d like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade."

I just pray the basketball gods dont punish spurs with injuries
What trade is he talking about here?

Spurs have more glaring holes than GS, CLE, and OKC

Looking like a 2nd round exit to be honest

It doesn't happen often, but I C/S everything @CHICAGO is saying in here. Everybody is so quick to worry about the next man's pockets, it's ridiculous. Everybody in here talking like they're David West's personal accountant and shyt, talking about how he's gonna end up broke. You don't know shyt about his financial situation, and honestly shouldn't care. What that man does with his life has zero effect on what happens in your life. Unless you invest that heavily into the game of basketball, in which case, as a FAN, you need some serious help.

Also, pulling up past quotes of him and Pop shytting on what they both basically just did is stupid too. We as a species are all hypocrites. Everybody and their mom got some negative shyt to say about LeBron, but let him end up on your squad, and see what happens. Hell, look at the dynamic of the Cleveland/Miami posters over the past 5 years. We all make fun of both sides, but we'd all be the same way if he came to our squad. We're all hypocrites. We LOVE to constantly move the goalposts so long as it benefits our squad. The faster you come to grips with that, the more understanding you'll be.

The funny thing about all this, is that David West isn't even that good anymore, and I'm pretty sure he realizes that. His numbers have declined, and he had a pretty down year last year, on a team where he probably should've had a nice statistical year if he were good enough to do so. So here's a guy who's made a little less than $90m in his career, probably realizes he's near the end, and wants to put himself in a position to get a ring. Who are we to tell him he's wrong? Let him live.
