Yes it does come from the blues that guy has no idea what he was talking about. Memphis is literally a skip and a hop from Mississippi where blues was literally created but blacks were singing about dancing with the devil all the time in the blues. And lets not act like Robert Johnson doesnt exist

I used to love Memphis hip hop, but I had to give it up. It was just too devilish for me.

That sound is still one of my favorites, though. That and Texas hip hop :wow:

Somebody made a thread on this a while back. I think the biggest reason was how popular Horror movies were in the 80s and 90s with black people in the south and in general. Them nikkas was horror movie fans before they was rapping, not to mention fans of horrorcore rap that came before them.
