Memphis is literally a skip and a hop from Mississippi where blues was literally created but blacks were singing about dancing with the devil all the time in the blues. I used to love Memphis hip hop, but I had to give it up. It was just too devilish for me.

Somebody made a thread on this a while back. I think the biggest reason was how popular Horror movies were in the 80s and 90s with black people in the south and in general. Them nikkas was horror movie fans before they was rapping, not to mention fans of horrorcore rap that came before them.
