Why was Mos Def's career such a disappointment?

Mos had it. Which, sadly, allowed him to coast. He got too deep into character, speaking in his exaggerated blaccent, being a reckless alcoholic, and womanizing to an extent that would shame even a womanizer. That's pretty much all there is to that.
alcoholic? womanizer? Where's this coming from?

Better yet, Post it yourself. He wasn't as hot as you think he was.

He was between underground and mainstream. Both Oh No and Ms Fatbooty were top 20 on the hiphop charts on Billboard. Oh No got a ton of spins back in the day, lot of that due to Nate Dogg hook. He's on Kanye's first album

He never crossed over into true stardom but he def wasnt some coffeeshop backpack rapper

Had he been willing to play ths game, he coulda reach the lower levels of mainstream success. If Kweli could get a few hits, Mos def could have

His lack of crossing over is on Mos tho

Its kind of hard to top 3 solid albums. Most greats have about just that except Biggie.
