Why wasn't Biz Markie criticized for making 'Just A Friend' back in the day?

At, 17 you're in high school. Can't drink. Can't vote. Can't enlist in the military.

To join the US Army you must be 17 years old or older and not have reached your 35th birthday.

Stop it. Learn to dance and stop being mad on the Internet over nothing.

Seems like you know exactly where I'm going.

You're making my case. Mos been singing since he came out.

You are not the authority on when an artist can choose to sing in his career. Some are good enough to make quality songs that mix both rap and r&b. While others have to make struggle umi says type songs.

well, when I was first introduced to Mos...I didnt hear that. maybe I missed what you are referencing to. I listened to UTD, Medina Green, and Soundbombing. Thats when I first knew of him. If he sung then he did, I have to go back and check, not gonna argue with you there or say you are wrong. What I will say is, did his singing gain him notoriety? Is that what got them this "cake" as you mentioned previously? My point is not what they did but what they do best. I obviously view Mos different than you. Below is the Mos I associate with and aint no new nikkas fukkin wit this shyt. As for his singing shyt :ehh: you take it for what it is, if it dont resonate with you dont fukk with it.

then again, this was one of the first Mos singing tracks I can recall.....but still, this is hip hop. Lyrically and technically, new nikkas aint fukkin with this. I give a fukk if he is singing...but then again the singing is dope to me. it comes to being able to mesh different genres....and I dont see anything wrong with that if it results in good music.

Of course his singing didn't give him his notoriety because he couldn't sing for shyt nor make a good song.

He's supposed to get points for not being able to capitalize on his bad singing, while others get penalized for knowing how to?

If rapping is what he did best and could capitalize off of it, he should've stuck with it and stfu on the singing tip. Can't knock someone who can profit off of doing both.

"If it don't resonate with you don't fukk with it" applies to everything and everyone including whoever the fukk is the artist you're complaining about.

I guess my question is, does singing on a track make it less hip hop? I would ask what does the rest of the track sound like...outside of the singing? My thing is, if its dope its dope. What genre's of music did hip hop evolve from? If I wanna here some R&B, I dont turn on Mos Def...I dont turn on Drake either. I put on some Tank or some shyt. If I am feeling like some real hip hop....I dont put in Drake either, lol. I can however find PLENTY of Mos Def without the singing that will satisfy my appetite.

Was that supposed to be a diss?

LOL.

I'm right where I should be and :umad: that you can't dance.

No. I'm congratulating you. You're 40, posting cam'ron smilies on a message board proclaiming that you can dance.

God damn a nikka made it.

I dont think you and I are arguing the same topics. I am not giving Mos points for singing, as I said, not too many of his singing joints stand out to me as something I would or have listened to. but because this nikka can rap he is not entitled to sing if he wants? if somebody likes it, then whats the problem? As I said, I am not knocking someone for doing whatever. You seem to be going from a monetary or star status type perspective and thats not what I am discussing. When you break these cats down they all have their strengths and their weaknesses. Drake is a better overall commercial artist than Mos Def, that is evident. If you compare him to Rule at his height for instance....he is not a bigger commercial artist or at least that is debatable. What is less debatable is, technically, introspectively, and when it comes to song making...an artist like Drake (and not picking on him specifically but he is the best example) is better than Rule in his prime.

So you understand drake then.
