I have the Retina and would take it over any Windows laptop but theres nothing special you can do on a Mac that you cannot do on windows.

I just bought officeone thing I like if it hasnt been mentioned is that you do not need microsoft office (a concern of mine when I got a MBP for work, as most the people I work with have windows based laptops) because it comes with numbers (excel) Keynote (power point) and pages (word) and they all handle microsoft office applications flawlessly.
and as somebody said, def get a VLC.

Do u do a lot of gaming on your computer? If so then 16gb is good. If you're just a casual user 8gb should be enough.I'm getting ready to upgrade the ram on my 2011 MBP. Is making the jump to 16gb worth it or am I better off settling for 8gb?
