First things first, RING magazine is no longer a credible source for true rankings. Theyre owned by Oscar, whos apart of Golden Boy, and the magazine has already showed that as a result of said ownership their integrity has been compromised. The biggest and most recent example is the fact that Kell Brook is rated #3 in the WW rankings, ABOVE Bradley! :mindblown:

Now to your list-

1. Alvarez rated #10 p4p?? :dahell:

2. Guerrero rated #3 WW over Pacquiao & Bradley and #9 p4p for beating Berto?? :childplease:

3. Cotto rated #1 JW? :salute:

4. Ortiz was rated #3 under Pacquiao & Mayweather at the time, because he beat Berto

5. Mosley rated #3 p4p for beating MARGARITO??!? :rudy:

6. Marquez rated #2 p4p, coming off a Pacquiao loss and 2 wins over Casamayor and Diaz??? :leon:

7. Hatton was rated!?!?!?!:bryan:

They aren't my rankings, you wanted where people were when they fought Mayweather and I provided what is considered the best and first source for PFP (Ring), if you think another publication or writer does better PFP rankings you can pull them out.

I won't break down every fighter but I agree that Guerrero and Ortiz were ranked too high. Canelo is probably isn't top 10 but he still is a beast and and the best fight to make (outside of Pacquiao obviously).

Marquez lost a split decision to Pacquiao in a fight a lot of people think he won

None of the above scores for Marquez is from Mexican media/boxers.
None of the above scores for Pacquiao is from Philippine media/boxers.
Among those unofficial scorers above, 32 scored the bout for Marquez, 32 scored it for Pacquiao, and the remainder scored it a draw.

He then was the first person to stop Casamayor and Diaz before fighting a returning Mayweather. Him and Pacquiao were pretty undisputed as the #1 and #2 PFP fighters at the time. Scott Crist from Bad Left Hook wrote
The Top Five: Everything stays the same. Pacquiao and Marquez currently rule the sport, at least until Mayweather's September 19 return. The gap between Pacquiao and Marquez is much closer than a lot of more casual fans really realize. The two are separated by one point on six judges' scorecards are two fights. Mayweather remains unranked because we don't know what he'll look like upon his return.

I get that people shyt on Hatton now because of how Mayweather and Pacquiao abused him but the hype around him was HUGE. Some of that was his ridiculous fan base overrating him but he was really hyped going into that fight because he KOed Castillo and Tszyu. Here's an article from around then by Eastside boxing. Floyd Mayweather/Ricky Hatton: Don’t count the Hitman out

Every top fighter is accused of ducking opponents (hell now even Martinez is being accused of "ducking" Glovokin). I just posted the rankings to show that Mayweather isn't fighting bums, he's fighting guys that are highly ranked by most publications.

This guy who made the post uses the same tired excuses "He fought guys (Gatti, Mitchell, N'dou) we knew he would beat!" While propping up Joel Casamayor and Acelino Freitas :usure: If Mayweather had fought Freitas (who Corralles KOed) people would just sub his name in instead of N'dou, Gatti, etc.

People swore Floyd was scared of Hatton, he was undefeated, his bodywork N foot speed would trouble Floyd:russ:

I love how that W is diminished cuz it was at 147....like Floyd was a massive Welterweight or like Hatton didn't weigh 200 pounds in between fights...not to mention Floyd had jus fought DLH at 154 y'all really expect him to drop to 140 N be healthy:what:

First off, I wanna give you props and respect. There are very few posters like yourself that make a point in an articulate, respectful, and logical manner. Majority of cats on here are way too biased, irrational, and lack credible knowledge when they're making a point. Glad to know there are quality posters still on here :salute:

Now in regards to our discussion, I personally favor ESPNs ratings. They seem more logical and unbiased than others I've seen. :manny: As far Canelo, he's the best opponent for Floyd Joy from a FINANCIAL standpoint, but not a competitive one. His best opponent was Trout. As far as Hatton, his stock plummeted during his WW debut when he got a gift decision against Collazo. Immediately after he said WW was too much for him and he felt the power difference and would be returning to 140. As it pertains to this Mayweather discussion tho about his level of opposition, its factual that throughout his career, there were opponents out there who would have posed more of a threat to him than the ones he faced, better names that could have been on his resume.
