We're still only 13-14 percent of the population, so the only way a black party could go national would be if there were non-black people also voting for it, which seems extremely unlikely to me. Otherwise we could all vote for it and it'd still not have any power on the national (or even state) level. I mean I wish that wasn't the case but math is math.

Yeah, there is no way the Dems/Rebs would let an "uncontrollable" third party gain prominence at the national (federal) level, they pretty much colluded with the media to shut that down after Ross Perot.

t still would be effective at the state to local level though (especially in the south where a lot of black folk are dems just cause).

The point is that unless we change how we vote, in terms of first-past-the-post voting, a two party system will always result.

Then the Democratic party will break in two. Democratic Socialist Party and a Democratic party which essentially will become the new Republican party and people will vote for them because the average person is a fukkin moron. .

This about sums it up for me to be honest.

If the US were a parliamentary system like the Westminster model breaking up parties would be a viable strategy. One electoral defeat and the Socialist Party will come back into the fold. The system binds together coalitions because they know the political calculus does not favor narrow message platforms. At best they have to accept the views of the other part of the big tent.

Split what vote? We are a minority. There's not much we can do in this democracy.

The painful truth is for the most part, most blacks are fiscally liberal, but socially conservative. There's a party there. In theory, there are many republicans who feel the same way. That's three legitimate national parties. Until now, there wasn't a way forward, but with the rise of trump, the rebpulicans can shake themselves of the open racists.
