I have always favored an approach of Blacks forming a Black centric third party at the local level where Blacks make up a majority of the voting population and caucusing with Dems at the fed level during things like the Presidential cycle:yeshrug::yeshrug:

What would that accomplish?

Split what vote? We are a minority. There's not much we can do in this democracy.

The painful truth is for the most part, most blacks are fiscally liberal, but socially conservative. There's a party there. In theory, there are many republicans who feel the same way. That's three legitimate national parties. Until now, there wasn't a way forward, but with the rise of trump, the rebpulicans can shake themselves of the open racists.

The problem with that idea is that the Republicans that are fiscally liberal are the racists. They were the guys voting Democrat until '68. They're the reason why Trump's swept all the confederate states that aren't Texas. They love the idea of handouts, just as long as a black or brown person isn't getting them.

We're stuck between a rock and a hard place. :manny:

If black people en masse decide to stop voting Democrat (and either stay home or vote 3rd party) then that's essentially handing the country over to the GOP which will make the situation even worse. If we continue to vote Democrat then votes will be taken for granted. Plus there's the fact that white voters tend to be averse to any policy they view as specifically enacted to help minorities (reverse racism blah blah blah), and the Dems are worried about not getting a high enough share of white voters.

So there's no good option. At all. But I'll generally vote Democrat in national elections because it's the less bad option and I tend to agree with them more on non-racial issues (climate change, drug policy, etc.) than I do with Republicans.

There actually is a good option, black people should create their own political party. Dr. Claude Anderson talked about it in Powernomics. We should have our own party with our own political agenda instead of trying to be accepted by the Dems or Rethugs.

Start at the local level with City Council, School Board, Judges, Sheriff, etc then work on up to the white house. The same we black people need their own businesses and schools created by us, for us; we need our own political party whose agenda lines up with the needs of black America.

So a "black" political party would never in a million years gain any power on a national level because we're just not a big enough percentage of the population that we'd be able to put a black party in power without support from anyone else. Call me defeatist or whatever if you want but it's really hard to imagine a black political party growing past the local level. So in practice it would basically be voting 3rd party and would help the GOP.

Considering neither the Democrats or the Republicans do anything for black people, how is focusing on our own party with our own agenda going to make things worse? Under Reagan we got crack flooded into black communities, under Clinton we got mass incarceration of black men, and under Obama we got black men being lynches for the world to see with nothing being done to stop it. No matter who is on office we're fukked, but for some reason we think that the Democrats are better for us despite all the evidence to the contrary.

I can't see a single benefit as a black man living in America to vote for either of those parties.

Besides, a lot of people thought never in a million years we'd have a black president, but that fakkit is sitting in the white house right now :ehh:

The fact remains that we're only 13-14% of the population. So if a black party candidate ran for president and every eligible black voter voted for them, that candidate would still have zero chance of winning and we'd be giving the election to the GOP.

Both parties suck but it's an exaggeration to say they're the same. If you have an opinion about things like who we should go to war with, whether marijuana should ever be legal, who should be on the Supreme Court, minimum wage, etc. then it's rational to vote strategically. Trust me I get that both parties suck but I don't see how it's rational for black folks to essentially give up their political power by voting for candidates with no chance of winning.

What political power do we have now voting for the Democrats? And we give our political power away every election cycle when we vote for the Dems and they do nothing for us in return.

Quite a bit actually, black voters are considered part of the Dem base and could cost the Dems elections if black voters sat out or voted GOP.

Problem is that the GOP is so blatantly antagonistic towards black people that most black voters can't stomach voting for them even if they're not really happy with the Democratic Party. Like I said, I don't have the solution and I don't think there's really a "good" option. :manny:

Maybe the best bet would be to come up with a clear cut "black" agenda and vote for politicians of any party that promise to implement it. Or maybe more black folks should go into politics and try to change the Democratic (or Republican for that matter) party from the inside. I dunno. All I'm saying is that a 3rd party can't realistically go anywhere on a national level and I'm not sure it's in black folks long-term interest to give power to the GOP (especially since the makeup of the Supreme Court could affect things for a LONG time to come).

Us voting for the Democrats every year and getting nothing in return isn't political power, it's stupidity at best and insanity at worst.

And a black party could go national if black people actually get behind it, but it would have to be part of our agenda.

We're still only 13-14 percent of the population, so the only way a black party could go national would be if there were non-black people also voting for it, which seems extremely unlikely to me. Otherwise we could all vote for it and it'd still not have any power on the national (or even state) level. I mean I wish that wasn't the case but math is math.

GOP is becoming whiter with each passing election and their platform will represent an appeal to that demographic. They are just trying to figure out how to balance their pro-business side with appeals to white working class men. Lyndon Johnson was the last Democrat to win white males, Democrats figure that they need to do well with a portion of white women and just watch the GOP implode trying to cater to their racist base and broaden the party. They have no problems restricting voting rights, closing clinics in places like Texas etc. The Democrats only need to contrast themselves with the GOP and they will easily pass the bar.
Then the Democratic party will break in two. Democratic Socialist Party and a Democratic party which essentially will become the new Republican party and people will vote for them because the average person is a fukkin moron. :francis:.

This about sums it up for me to be honest.
