Will there ever be an entertainer on Michael Jackson's level?

In terms of talent what about James Brown and Jackie Wilson?
Totally different eras. They had to perform on the chitlin circuit

Honestly felt like Shakira and Lady Gaga in their prime looked like they could have reached that level :yeshrug:

Check this out here

Or even Gaga's super bowl performance

Gaga fukked her career up tho and Shakira got lazy and stopped trying

Lady Gaga was getting huge but she wasn’t going to be MJ status.

But why mention Prince in this thread since he’s obv not in the running for the topic of conversation?
The title of the thread. I don't mention Prince as a diss, I answered the fukking question in my opinion. I think he's better.

How is he NOT in the running?

The only way this is possible

Is if a new genre of music is born that everyone accepts from the door

On some Alternative edm, country rapping R&B rockstar

And there's one artist who basically is the sole
Driver of the movement that everyone loves

Black, white, Asian, etc

So.. No. It's virtually impossible with the way music is now divided up amongst the people

There's like 4 categories of R&B alone now

Much less the radio stations dedicated to play only certain music. People in general will not be exposed to it on the level they were back then

Alot of people don't even listen to the radio anymore

I think he means because they're both dead - the question in the OP is in present tense...but I could be wrong :hubie:

Nah, those days are done. He was from a different era. Just like there won't be another Prince, Freddie Mercury, The Rolling Stones, Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston. I'm not saying that just as someone who is getting up in age, and on some get off my lawn shyt. I like a lot of new music. There will always be big stars. That era of the mega star is done for now though. The way we consume media is different. It's just a different world now.

Also, the problem is that nowadays, everybody sounds the same that's why you ain't see any unique artists in nowadays now. They singing the same shyt, they rapping the same shyt.

I was going to say that. No matter what I listen to: rap, r and b, rock, pop, metal. Each sound in their respective genre sounds the same and interchangeable. It's like they have an artificial intelligence program manufacturing them, and writing their lyrics based on what it knows what beats gets humans going.

Yup. Have you seen the movie called "A Star Is Born"?, there are some Ally scenes remind me of how the music industry want to change and control their artists. They don't care about their artists talent, they just want $$$.

You have no idea how right you are with that. Everything is created via an algorithm these days in order to ensure earworms. Its also the reason its all so disposable because there is no depth beyond the hook. Also agree that the "Give me everything. Now" need for constant stimulation via the net has totally altered the way we consume media and what is expected from it as well as how much attention we give it.

Combine it with people not wanting to grind but real thirsty to shine you see 1/4 baked "talent" being pushed to the masses who are too dumb to realize anyway and care even less.

Finally the "artist" hasn't got jack to do with art or expression these days, its all about endorsements, product placement, sale of aspirational lifestyles etc.. as everything is an advert, whether you realize it or not, as its all about "influence".

Politicians are in a different category imo

I’m sure we’re primarily discussing black artist. Most people would acknowledge that Madonna is up there success and fame wise

The tabloid media that’s present today stated in MJs era. Actually artist today have a much better control of their image than Whitney & MJ did. The tabloids pretty much ruined them.

If you're into anime, which I'm guessing you are by your avatar, check out Carole and Tuesday on Netflix. It's by the guy who directed Cowboy Bebop. So it's not some dumb shyt. It's set in the future, but it's about these two girls who find each other because they love music. After a viral video people start liking them because they sound real. But they also have a rival. A former child star who wants to transition to music. She's working with this industry guy who analyzes your brain and voice, and uses that with his AI to develop lyrics that will work for her.
