Ross will never have a crossover hit or appeal :whatever:

Which is a good thing to be honest, he can play this mafioso lane for another 10 years and never break platinum. Never digressing and never moving forward....Just consistent

Sick of you n!ggas making stupid predictions, who the fukk made you a pyshic ?
busta-scream.png

So you mean to tell me that Drake/YOLO/OVO isn't picking up steam
huh.png

I hate her guts but Nicki Minaj isn't a megastar ?
nicki.png

J.Cole, Big Sean, Wiz, Kendrick, Meek and all these new n!ggas all have potential to be that next dude. Go back to the early 2000s, nobody I mean nobody though Lil Wayne would become a heavyweight

So to discount any of the new school is just too early ...give it 5 years or

Hypnotize was #1 on the billboard charts back in 97, Biggie had crossover success and his "image" is similar to Ross.

He could also try to "cheat" his way to a hit by using Neyo to sing the hook on a track that's a attempt to cross over.

Imagine if Ross had this track instead of Pitbull :ohlawd:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46tTPlg_dis]Ne-Yo - Give Me Everything (Tonight) (Feat. Pitbull & Nayer) [Lyrics on Screen] (Feb 2011) M'Fox - YouTube[/ame]

This song was a major crossover hit off of the Neyo hook alone. :ohlawd:

But I think Ross is comfortable in the lane hes in now, I mean Ross's album outsold B.O.B and that nikka had a Taylor Swift feature on his album :pachaha:

Nicki was trying to go into that world wide Lady Gaga lane. There's no lie about that. The Question is. How come she cant do that?:comeon:

How come Nicki gotta be the same hood booger from Queens spitting shyt about nikkas licking her p*ssy for the rest of her rap career. How come she cant go pop?

Kanye West Graduation is CLEARLY him trying to break out of the hip hop mold, which he did succesfully. But trust me, if Kanye was to try and pull off songs like this

Kanye West - Stronger - YouTube

now in this social media era, where every Tom dikk and Harry thinks he is a Hip Hop gate keeper. People would of called him a sell out selling his soul to the House party overlords.

Ya nikkas did the same shyt to Usher. Ya want him singing "Burn" for the rest of his life. When in reality this song he did with Diplo was progression and actually good as hell, and is ironically very similar to Kanye's stronger production wise.

Usher - Climax - YouTube

I'm not saying she CAN'T do it. But what I'm saying is that her music appeals to the lowest common denominator. She's fast food rap, there's nothing substantial about her, nothing real. She's a personality, you KNOW what your going to get from a Nicki Minaj song and album. With Kanye, there's thought, structure, imagination, and always some type of substance to his music. I've never heard a Kanye West album and thought to myself that he's just doing what's popular to catch the attention of any preteen on a sugar rush. Kanye's Graduarion was his attempt to break out, but you still had songs like Everything I Am, The Glory, Good Morning, Big Brother, etc. songs that compromised a well rounded effort to combine genre's, lyricism, and a bit of heart. Where's Nicki's progression as an artist? Progression as an MC? Progression as a songwriter? She's like a female Flo Rida, all flash ZERO substance, which is why the majority of Hip Hop fans who would prefer well rounded artists don't fukk with her

Pitbull fits perfectly into that pop lane though, being cuban and in Miami . That song transcends well even overseas into the clubs in Ibiza. Even Euro Cacs love this dude's music.

We are in a different era breh, I don't see Rozay perfoming well on these Pitbull/Flo Rida esque joints.

B.O.B? N!gga should have kept it in the family with Bruno

Drake and Lil Wayne aren't megastars already?

Lol @ the obscenely unrealistic definition some of you have of a megastar. I can't stand Lil Wayne but he will sell out anywhere he goes and so would Drake. Both guaranteed to go platinum.

Nah, its funny, cuz I cant believe im about to be in this bytch defending Nicki fukking Minaj :russ:

But in her early days, female rap wise, Nicki was a well rounded MC. She was out here bodying nikkas on tracks, and she had concepts flow and all. To keep it a buck, even tho she sold the fukk out, Nicki is a Top 3 female MC of all time. Nicki wasnt jus sum air head bimbo who got on cuz she looks nice. She could actually spit. When she was really coming up, she had everybody, the nerds, the rosenbergs, the hoodboogers, the suburbs. Errybody. Her problem was that she switched the script too quick. N in hip hop, apparently you cant switch up ya shyt until ya 3rd album :beli:

It can be argued that Nas, Jay-Z, and Kanye all switched up their styles starting with their second albums, even though all of them encountered a fair amount of backlash, NONE of then have been outright disowned by Hip Hop fans/media in the manner that Nicki Minaj Has. Hell Her boss Lil Wayne went from the self proclaimed "Best Rapper Alive (:wtf:) to a syrup addicted, skateboarding, Autotune screeching alien weirdo and even HE hasn't been met the amount of criticism that Nicki has. Perhaps it is indeed like you said that she switched up too soon, but I think it's because she switched it up TOO DRAMATICALLY. Even you yourself said and posted that she had some REAL Bars to spit coming up. As an MC and artist, if of want to remain credible, you have to be able to find that balance. There's almost ZERO balance in her mainstream output. And I would honesty argue that THAT extreme lack of balance exonerates her from any top 3 Female MC list. I wouldn't put Nicki Minaj in the same class as Lauryn Hill (the GOAT female spitter) nor Lil Kim, Queen Latifah, Foxy Brown, or MC Lyte. Queen Latifah could spit, could drop a little knowledge here and there, and was well balanced. Even the ultra sexual Kim/Foxy era showed more of a dedication to actual lyricism than Nicki's average by design, spoonful of sugar raps.

Again I'm not saying that Nicki CAN'T spit, I'm just saying that since she made it big she made it a POINT to drop hella crossover, pop sugary music. She, of course has the right to this, but she's not going down as a top MC off of it nor even a moderately respectable one. She's going to be remembered about as fondly as we remember Nelly or Ja Rule (perhaps even less so) for MC's who crossed over well, but had nothing else to show for it as artists.

:wtf: at comparing "Stronger" to "Starships". Or "Graduation" to "Pink Friday".

You gotta be :troll:

Listen, the main difference between the two is Nicki Minaj actively went out of her way to court a fanbase that wasn't related in anyway to hip-hop. Now people want to talk about "oh, she's a rap superstar" when she was trying to distance herself from rap a year ago.

Are people really that desperate for icons nowadays?

"Graduation" is a rap album. "Pink Friday", her image, and the way she was acting had her pegged as the next Lady Gaga. This ain't my opinion, or Coli's opinion, this is how the world perceived her.

Lady Gaga is not hip-hop music. She's pop. Nobody compared "Graduation" to a Katy Perry record. Whole comparison, including the targeting of "Stronger" is :heh: as hell because house music been a part of rap since Jungle Bros.

Nobody is comparing Nicki to Kanye. I think you missed the point I was trying to make. :what:

No, I don't understand your point. Or what Kanye or "Stronger" has to do with anything.

You asked "how come she can't do that" as if the topic isn't "rap megastar". Not sure how you can be a rap megastar when the media has you pegged as the next Lady Gaga. Unless you consider Lady Gaga rap.

And I think I need to clarify, I'm not saying she shouldn't cross over. It's 2013, "keepin it real" is dead. There is no kinda code of ethics to rap nowadays. People cross over, it is what it is.

I'm just saying, when the world at large doesn't see your accomplishments as related to rap, and you're being compared to straight up pop music....how the fukk is it right to say that person is a rap megastar? You can't have it both ways.
