I would rather see a traditional Pokemon RPG on a console than a MMO personally.
You don't seem to understand. Rumors are that the NX will be a console AND a handheld. Meaning the next Pokemon game will almost definitely be playable on both the handheld and the console. I was just asking if there was any reason to think it might not happen, but now that I think about it, there really isn't.
And you seriously don't think it will sell on consoles? That's bullshyt. A Pokemon game on consoles was/is every 90's kid's dream game. It's the biggest game Nintendo could possibly make.

Handhelds are more popular in Japan than consoles, so they can't abandon handhelds. That's why the NX sounds like the perfect plan. A console and a handheld that both get the same games means you can satisfy everybody if you do it right. If the Wii U had all the games the 3DS has the Wii U might not have been such a huge failure.

I do understand. One... These are just rumors. 2 Nintendo already stated the NX IS NOT the successor to the 3ds. Wether the NX will be a console/handheld hybrid or not IT'S NOT the next "DS" or whatever.
I never said it wouldn't sale on consoles. I said IT WOULD SALE MORE on handhelds. This is just numbers. The 3ds install base more then doubles the wii u install base. And this has been the case with every generation "console" and "handheld" execpt for the "Wii" which Nintendo will never find that type of console success again. If nintendo was ever gonna make a console open world pokemon game there chance was with the Wii and they felt they didn't need to.
Lets be real here. The NX WHATEVER it is still won't outsale the ps4. And it DEFINITELY won't outsell the 3ds.

Everything you can do on handhelds can be done on consoles. Trading, battling, etc can all be done online. We're talking about a Pokemon game that would be on consoles and on handheld so if you like the handheld versions its not taking anything away from that version.
We're not talking about 3DS or Wii U here so those install bases don't mean anything.
The NX won't outsell the 3DS? With everyone who owns a 3DS and everyone who owns a Wii U buying a NX? Rumors are that the NX will be just as powerful as Xbox One and PS4 if not more powerful. It will not be a financial disaster like the Wii U was.

Minimize costs -> maximize profits
The handheld games are cheap to make but sell alot. So they're profitable. A 3D open world console game would be more expensive to make and sell less than the handheld one. Also, the creator of pokemon has said numerous times that he wants pokemon trainers to meet face to face to train and battle. Doing all of that over the internet (on console) would be isolating.

I 100% agree the NX will do MUCH better then the Wii U. It's still gonna be in 2nd place at best. It wont hit it's stride til year 2/3.
No it wont outsale the 3ds. The 3ds is their best selling handheld ever and unlike the Wii U the 3ds has no signs of slowing down support anytime soon.
(Nintendo has yet to reveal any concrete info on the NX but they are more then open to confirm it's not replacing the 3ds.
)It's very safe to believe the next main pokemon games are still gonna be on the 3ds.

What i've been saying this whole time. No one disagrees a console main pokemon game would be amazing. Nintendo is never gonna do it until the fans STOP buying the handhelds. And that is never gonna happen

That wouldn't make any sense whatsoever. Why would the next Pokemon game be on the 3DS if the NX is a Console and a Handheld? Pokemon is the main handheld game people want so not releasing it on your new handheld seems like an incredibly dumb idea.
All they have to do is port the handheld NX game to the console NX. I'm not asking for a fully 3D Pokemon game with PS4 level graphics. It wouldn't cost much at all and they would make a lot of money off it.

Same reason Black/White 2 still released on the ds when the 3ds was already out. Install base.
Im not saying it WILL happen. But it's a pretty safe bet.

From what little we know about the NX. It looks to be a console/handheld hybrid where the console and handheld parts are sold as separate units. When a developer makes a game for the handheld component it can also be played on the console. This is a genius idea (assuming it's true).
If what I said about the NX is true then you can expect the handheld component to quickly outsell the PS4 (the 3ds has already sold more units than the PS4). Mobile gaming is immense popular in east Asia.
