Will wearing a suit prevent us from being racially profiled and abused by the police????

c00n shyt to even ponder. This is why respectability politics is so dangerous. It allows the oppressed to blame themselves for the hate the oppressor has for them
If it wasn’t for respectability politics. Barrack would have have never gotten elected as President. If it wasn’t for respectability politics, a Black man could talk and act like Donald Trump and still receive 70 million votes

Whether you blame yourself or not doesn’t change the outcome.

If you think you can be authentically unapologetically “yourself” as a Black man and get the same results as someone that is willing to makes necessary adjustments. You are selling our brothers a false dream.

Maybe someday. But we’re not there yet.

Respectability politics is the attempt to distance oneself from perceived stereotypical behaviors of ones community .

Barack Obama doesn’t practice respectability politics. He behaves like a man of his age and background normally would :stopitslime:

c00ns like Jason Whitlock do:mjpls:

I don't know what your underlying thoughts are on this subject, but if I think I'm on the same page with you, the conversation you're seeking to have can't be had on here. I mean it can, but it won't be productive.
Yeah you’re right.

Since you seem to be a little less triggered and more logical I’ll expand on my theory

Post 1970. It has become less common for all American males to wear suits on a daily basis. The suit has become the uniform of the “professional”. A man with a certain level of status, economic standing and influence.

Back in the day everyone wore suits and often a hat. It was status quo for even working class folks. Brothers wore suits in strip clubs and dog tracks

Now it has a different stigma. (Importance, power, influence, ambition)

My theory is that perhaps certain racist police officers view a Black man in a suit as someone with a certain level of power and connection. He might still be a “nikka” in their eyes. But he might know somebody. He might have a connection to some entity that would hold them more accountable for abuse. I feel that police officers may fear ( not respect) a Black man in a suit a bit more. Because of the image and narrative it presents to potential jurors and society as a whole.

Of course as someone mentioned earlier, being the “brother in a nice suits” creates another set of problems based on jealousy from the potential race soldier.

But we need to stop pretending that things like suits and wedding bands don’t contribute to image. Which was the point Kevin Samuel’s was trying to express with his Birth of a Nation explanation. Image is influential and dangerous.

The Black male in America has a terrible image. Not one person in this thread can deny that fact.

My granddaddy was a police officer , so he taught us the things that his racist co-workers would use to profile us and how to avoid certain scenarios.

Really understanding how they think and why can potentially save your life.

Im open for correction and debate. Just address what I say, and not what you think I wanted to say.

Im not scared of none of these nikkas. I watch them call great Black men “c00ns” on a daily basis.

:pachaha:

If you live in a country where the only way to avoid being murdered by state officials is to wear a suit then I'm sorry ur not he problem the state is. This simply isn't a conversation worth having.
I agree.

But you’re presenting a scenario that Black men in this country are currently being killed for logical and valid reasons.

We’re clearly dealing with an irrational power structure.

IF you had something important to say then you should’ve/should just say it...easiest way to shut folks up and get them to listen...seems more so that you’re just being defensive OP brought light to your “question”
I’m trying not to make declarations without data to back up what I’m thinking. How do I get “to my point” without even knowing if it’s based in reality? I could totally be off base.

Y’all could have shut me down a long time ago by posting examples in the past 30 years of unarmed Black men being abused and murdered by police while wearing a suit.

The Rodney King video was exposed in 1991. It’s been 30 years, we’ve seen 300 videos. Can anyone point to just 3 examples where the victimized brother was wearing a suit?

Yeah I know “data is for c00ns” but can anyone help us establish patterns to discuss potential solutions?

I’m only addressing the men that are interested in learning how to “move in a room full of vultures”

If we’re all Black men. Nobody should be offended by discussion.

a) your “theory” ended up being exactly where I knew you were taking the conversation so it didn’t add anything knew to my perspective of your “question”

b) I apologized for the “c00n” comment but still contend that your original statement was dead wrong and you went on to go exactly where I knew your point was headed in asking your “question”...I’m over it

I’ve dealt with ppl long enough to not have my time wasted with roundabout “questions” and like to get straight to the point of things without the posturing...the point you were trying to make was pretty straightforward imo from the “question” you asked in addition to your subsequent posts in the original thread

...and this is just generic nonsense so the jay z line is appropriate, when I can potentially be harassed/brutalized or killed by police just taking out the garbage...or should I wear a suit then too?

You can keep that “I’m a c00n” energy brother. No need to apologize. I know who I am. The ad hominem is a white flag.

I don’t know what type of “people you’ve dealt with”. But I’m not any of them.

But @George's Dilemma is correct. This forum isn’t the audience for these type of discussions. Maybe one day, but not yet.

But since you’re so good at mind reading. What am I eating for lunch?

You have the comprehension skills of a child and analytical skills of a white woman.

My question was for logical unemotional men only.

You don’t even know what point I was trying to make because you jumped in your feelings like a broad.

I didn’t “imply” anything bytch nikka. You literally just made all that shyt up.

If I really wanna say something, I’ll come out and say it. What the fukk am I scared of y’all for?

There is nothing subtle about statements that I chose to make.

For example. You act like a white bytch.

Clear enough?

Black men’s reading comprehension being at a 4th grade level is the real pandemic.

:wow:

You see it.

nikkas like @surf do they damnedest to not act like "white people" but ain't got a problem acting like a bytch. #buckbreaking

But instead of engaging with me to get a deeper understanding of where I'm coming from, like every other person with irrational sensibilities, you lead with emotion. This is a forum. A forum should have diverse thoughts and you should engage with those who have different views from you to gain deeper understanding.

I don't agree with everything @Dap Fishin says but he gets some things right. Like how you add no value to conversations on this forum. Your posting history lacks anything of substance. And that's a sad state of affairs to be and you're almost 50 years old, almost twice my lifetime.

since you’re so good at mind reading.

bruh I’m strictly going by your words...so if you have a problem it’s with what you said being put on blast by the OP

from what you said in the original thread...

Back in those days everyone wore suits. Even poor people and street dudes (of all races)

I specifically asked about modern racist attacks for a reason.

They wore what they had available. Which is why people talking about lynchings in suits make no sense. Jordan's and sweats and slides wasn't available. shyt sneakers were only worn for sports up until 1970's

I agree. Which is why my question was specifically about modern racist attacks by police. Posting a bunch of Black and white photos with brothers in zoot suits is not addressing my question.

...it was obvious as hell to deduce what your point was going to be...I just saw thru the bullshyt and you hiding behind your “question” pretty early as did the OP hence this thread...your “theory” is not deep at all

...I’ll expand on my theory

Post 1970. It has become less common for all American males to wear suits on a daily basis. The suit has become the uniform of the “professional”. A man with a certain level of status, economic standing and influence.

If anything it would make them want to target you more because they will see you as uppity. :francis:

There’s nothing a racist’s hate more than a successful Black man.
