it's a miracle these players are able to walk at this point. on top of that they rode buses for majority of the games they played in the east coast.

and just look at the way they dribble a damn ball. they weren't allowed to palm the ball. there was no such thing as crossover cuz every crossover you see is a damn carry.

it was a different game.

and from that game my biggest take away is how jerry west would've ate in this era. west in today's era is Curry with deadly midrage.
Steph already IS a deadly midrange shooter. He shot like 59% from there in 2018.

It's impressive seeing how he missed 50% of his free throws :mjlit:

But really though, if he got to workout with the competition and all that that's here today, both him and Kareem, crazy. Was just watching old Shaq videos, that dominant and talented C is :to:

Let me repeat. In the first 15 years of NBA history they only drafted six Black players over 6'9". Only SIX in 15 years. The year that Wilt was drafted, he was the ONLY Black player over 6'9" who was drafted. None at all was drafted the year before him. None at all the year before that either. None at all was drafted the year after him either.

Compare that to today, where you have 12 Black players 6'10" or taller drafted in 2017 alone. You acting like it's compareable is straight ignorant. There is FAR more talent and athleticism at height today than there was back then.

The NBA would put up one random 6'9" White stiff on each team and you think that's somehow comparable to now? Here are the centers that Wilt faced in the PLAYOFFS during the first half of his career when he put up big scoring numbers:

Connie Dierking. 6'9" 220lbs. #20 in this picture, the one who is nowhere near even reaching the rim. Wilt faced him in the '60 and '67 playoffs

201312301118406931325

Swede Halbrook, a 7'3" 235lb alcoholic with mental issues who only lasted two years. Wilt was famously fazed while playing against him cause he was the only player his height. After getting released he became a circus clown. Wilt faced him in the '61 playoffs (where Wilt got swept in the 1st round without breaking 50% shooting in a single game) and the '62 playoffs.

'

Zelmo Beaty. 6'9" 225lbs. Beaty actually had some athleticism, unlike the first two guys on this list, but he simply didn't have modern center size. In fact, he ended up switching to power forward in the 1970s. Wilt faced him in the '64 playoffs.

Wayne Embry. At 6'8" 240lbs, Embry was even shorter than Beaty, and looked it. Wilt faced him in the '65 playoffs

Then of course....Bill Russell. At 6'10" and 215lbs, Russell was nowhere near Wilt's size. But he was the only athletic player over 6'8" when Wilt came into the league and he gave Wilt fits, beating him every playoff series they played 1960-1966.

And just to be fair, here were the rest of the starting centers when Wilt came into the league.

Charlie Tyra: 6'8", 230lbs

Clyde Lovellette, 6'9" 234lbs

Walter Dukes, 7' 220lbs

Jim Krebs, 6'8" 230lbs

Phil Jordon, 6'10" 205lbs

Those are ALL the starting centers when Wilt came in. You got three skinny-ass tall guys with zero muscle or skill, five little guys who were just 6'8" or 6'9", and Russell. THAT is who Wilt was building up huge stats against.

Anyone coming into this thread trying to claim these guys would be starting centers in the NBA today is full of shyt. :laff:

I don't think anyone has said Wilt would average 50ppg in the modern era like he did in the 60s. The competition then was obviously weaker than later eras. However, all one has to do is look at the tape and see how special Wilt was.

If he played today he would STILL be arguably the best player we've ever seen. His talent is that obvious. Its similar to watching LeBron in high school. The competition is obviously weak but you can see his transcendant talent.

They shyt on every great who is better than LeBron. Classic insecurity.

Just think. What all-time great have they ever given props to?
It's not really that, it's that y'all not consistent with y'all narratives. The forum gets flooded with anti-LeBron rhetoric daily and then the same posters turn around and make threads like this.

There's really no measure where Wilt is actually greater than LeBron. Not accolades, not skill or talent, not longevity, nothing. Let's not even consider the fact he'd be a mutant and far more advanced than any player in the 60's clearly being from 50 years in the future. If you just adjust his stats for 1962 pace he'd average 40-45 points and a triple double every season.

Wilt is a legend I've got him in the back end of my top 10, the truth is though for on and off the court reason the guy would be the Coli's most hated player back in the 60's and 70's if the site existed then. :francis:

Wilt might be till this day the GOAT freak athlete in sports history but let’s not act like he wasn’t a notorious stat padder. If he’s so good how comes the year he averaged 50ppg he dropped by 15 points during the playoffs to 35ppg :jbhmm:? Imagine if Harden went from averaging 35ppg during the regular season to just 20 in the playoffs? He would get clowned even more than he already does.

If he’s such a dominate scorer why doesn’t he have a single 60 point playoff game:jbhmm: Jordan at 6’6 managed to against one of the GOAT teams but Wilt can’t? In fact, one of his contemporaries, Elgin Baylor, has a 60 point finals game yet Wilt doesn’t?

How comes his only 2 rings came when his stats took a dramatic drop :jbhmm:

But I don’t like to look at stats alone. Luckily enough NBA uploaded the 1970 finals a few weeks ago.

How comes he struggled to score against a one legged Willis Reed :jbhmm:

Wilt was super talented but his mentality was all wrong. He was more obsessed with stats than winning. When the pressure was on (playoffs) and it’s not as easy to stat pad his production dropped. Let’s be honest he was the James Harden of the 60’s. He’s still a top 12 off his sheer production, talent, records and the 2 rings but if he had the mindset of Russell he would’ve won a lot more.

Because a cat on the front page claimed that his competition today would be comparable to his competition back then. Another breh said that Wilt's lack of success in his era shows us how LeBron would have fared back then.

When people call you the GOAT, then that's going to be part of the conversation.

WOAT poster. Sucking LeBron's dikk is why you lack basketball knowledge
