The REAL questions for KDs legacy are...

Does he get a statue? If so, where?

Or...

Does he get his jersey retired? If so, by whom? I know my Dubs got a low bar for retiring jerseys, and give KD way too much credit for our 2 middle chips.

I hope they DON'T.

Is it really easier to score now? I don't know if that statement is true. There's plenty of guys that can't score even in this era

I think the more accurate statement is teams are more equipped with elite shooters 1-4 (sometimes 1-5) to space the floor. So that increases team scoring but shouldn't be misconceived with the notion that Iverson would just come in and average 50.

i.e. They would put a Thompson twin or Dyson Daniels type on him then dare him to shoot the 3 or invite him to drive into a congested paint like we saw the Lakers/everyone do with Ant, in which AI would have to force up some bullshyt or pass the ball.

If his team has elite shooters and high iq swing swing mfers, then that pass out will lead to good things. If not, it would be a Trae Young, LaMelo Ball or current Ant situation. Then on the other end he could no longer hide on an Alvin Williams or Ty Lue type, they'd mismatch hunt him on the PnR and force his team to either allow him to get cooked over n over, or collasp and allow the other team's elite shooters to rain 3s on them.

I'd conclude that the game just has a different nuance and the great but 1-dimensional scorer who isn't elite in much else (passing, facilitating, screening, defending, rebounding, playing off ball, etc) will struggle to have the same impact. The idea of i need to jack up 30 shots and shoot over 2-3 players bc passing it to Tyrone Hill and Aaron McKie are the worse options (hence why we only score 90ppg as a team), is no longer viable in 2025.

Hell, CLE and MEM are the #1 and #6 offenses but Donovan (45%), and Ja (43%) are well below 50% shooting. Only SGA & Giannis are averaging 30ppg with Jokic at 29ppg, and all 3 are GOAT-tier unique/dexterious with how they accumulate points.

Wild that such a god-level NBA talent has been very ..... underplayed? Underutilized? mishandled? I'm not sure what the term and situation here is but to have a guy like him just kinda move through the NBA and not really make waves after GSW is incredible to me.

GP & Malone were averaging 26/6/4 on 53/40/82 at Year 17? :camby:

KD moves the needle, he just ain't gonna do it on a team with shyt roster construction like the Suns
37 year old Karl averaged 23/8 on 50% in the slowest and most defensive minded era ever and made the playoffs

KD's stats while nice are inflated and their impact is non existent

Breh you can say what you want and much of it might be accurate but a back to back Finals MVP would have to go full Orenthal to not get his jersey retired. Come on :pachaha:

The game is faster which leads to more possessions. More possessions lead to more scoring. It is easier to score on the perimeter now, its actually harder driving or going to the basket unless you have shooting around you like you said. Regardless of era or pace or rules your top scorers are usually between 28-33 with your occasional outliers of course. PPG is honestly moreso a function of opportunities than skill or impact if we being real. Thats why we see so many dudes putting up great scoring numbers and losing and/or going to a legit team anf having their numbers drop. The "insert legend here" would avg 50 argument is so ridiculous and not based in any serious thought. For anybody to do that they would need to either shoot 70% or take 40 shots a night (like Wilt did). Too your point many of the old school scorers would actually have a harder time because you cant just clear out and abuse a guy one on one in the post or going downhill.

I can see both the Thunder and Warriors retiring his jersey numbers. Definitely not the Nets or Suns, tho.

OKC because of the fact he (along with Westbrook) made them relevant as an NBA city and led the franchise to many great seasons, Finals/WCF appearances, and moments. With Golden State, it's because he was a big part of why the Warriors became a dynasty; without KD, the Dubs might be one or two championships short.

I think that might depend on how this young core does. If they go out and become an all time squad, KD and Russ are afterthoughts and KD left them for dead for the squad he helped blow a 3-1 lead to. Also depends on the feelings of those in charge and the relationships. For that reason, Russ might actually be more of a lock :manny:

Out of context yeah. In the context of we already had a championship team, he just came along put the cherry on top. Then left immediately after 2 years. And one of those finals MVPs should've been Steph.

I'd prefer Kevon Looney go up in the rafters.

The loyalty and longevity aspect matters to me.

All well and good and you are entitled to your opinion but you know as well as I do that no team is gonna do that.

Eh, I know a lot of people are gonna glaze this SGA, Holmgren, and Williams era, understandably, but the truth is that KD (and Russ) did a lot for their organization and city despite not winning a title.

Made them a respectable and notable NBA franchise.

KD isn't Ray Allen or Carmelo Anthony; there's a reason why the Thunder haven't allowed anybody to wear Durant's number all these years after his departure, and it's because they respect him despite the bitter ending. I think they'll retire his jersey within a year or two whenever his eventual retirement happens :yeshrug:.

In all fairness to KD he's been somewhat unlucky, if Kyrie and Harden dont get hurt and Joe Harris wasn't so ass Nets could've won a chip
He really shoulda done 2 things……. Told the media it’s his life and he living it the way he wants, and handled his business straight up with Draymond.

That way he coulda stayed with Golden State and avoided being passed around like crazy.
Dude's too non-confrontational/passive. They could've had a quick fade in the locker room and they would've got another 3 chips
