I blame some of this on the Jordan fans always trying to talk slick about Kobe because dude was challenging the throne.
Jordan fans started to try and downplay Kobe while comparing him with LeBron to keep Jordan safe.
Now that Kobe is older and the Lakers for the time being are out of contention(but have just reloaded) they have to fight this monster they blew out of proportion named LeBron who is entering the Finals.
When in reality the Kobe vs Jordan and Kobe vs LeBron debate is a lot closer than the LeBron and Jordan comparison.
LeBron vs Jordan are the LeBron fans getting a little too egotistic and taking a more major leap than they realize imo. Again, that's thanks to the Jordan fans trying to downplay Kobe's achievements.
