With slightly better production values 36 Chambers would STILL be the best album out if it dropped today

I'd take it as is. Too much shyt today is computerized, overproduced or underproduced garbage. Part of the reason I gravitate to Griselda. Conductor Williams might really be the new RZA.

Nah man. Leave it as is. I was 5 when it came out, so i aint even on some nostalgia shyt.

But when i discovered it in 01, it changed how i looked at hiphop. Besides x, i was into very mainstream poppy shyt.

But the grittiness and roughness in production yet coherent, was euphoric.

Love this album man.

Yeah, it would need to still be the same as it is.

any different and it'd just be devoid of what it is.

in fact, if it came out today, it'd be even more mind blowing than it was in the 90's.

Conductor is the new GOAT of this era. Griselda ain't my cup of tea, but I do check for Conductor's instrumentals that he produces for them.

Like, Liquid Swords or Cuban Linx-level polish and sound quality. RZA was on another level compositionally.
True, but that Gritty basement sound at the time actually added to the appeal IMO. It's perfect the way it is if you look at it that way. They had low budget equipment I am sure at the time and that changed by the time Liquid Swords etc. came around and that was more clean sound. I take 36 for what it is and what they had at the time and it worked.

ODB would be the breakout star of the group it they came out now
RZA mentioned something that never dawned on me

he said Dirt had the most billboard hits as a solo artist. True or not, it is easy to forget how successful he was.

Brooklyn Zoo - #5 on rap, 54 on Billboard 100
Shimmy Shimmy Ya - #9 on rap, #62 Billboard 100
Woo Ha Remix - #6 rap #8 100
Fantasy remix - #1
Ghetto Superstar - #15 Billboard 100
Got your money - #19 on rap, 33 on Billboard

Method man and ODB were the breakout stars, by far.

Carlos Bess said they used great equipment on 36 Chambers, RZA just made it sound like shyt on purpose. All the radio edits are way cleaner than the rest of the album

It worked.... The sounding like shyt on purpose made a classic album. I don't doubt thy had equipment but later on as said the sound was just more clean and polished on the solo albums sides Tical which sounded gritty as well. I still wish we got a Deck solo in those days with all Rza on the boards, that is something we needed as well.
