A few things happened to NY that they caused themselves.

1. They eat their young. Whenever a new rapper comes up, the older ones don't help them out. They also try and destroy each other rather than building each other up. Southern vets build up younger artists and show them the ropes.

2. They didn't let other east coast talent shine. East coast is more than NYC, they didn't support of other cities like the South does. ex: N.O. ATL, HOU, MIA, etc. all support each other.

3. Outside of a few producers...their production was hot garbage. Other regions were bringing better production. 50 cent over a Dr. Dre beat>> 50 over an east coast producers beat. The south's production goes without saying.

Not one person hating on NYC in this thread has been able to speak about the hip hop scene where they live with specific examples of the types of events you attend.

Over the next couple weeks, we got heat like this, this, this, and this happening. Not even counting Red Bull Music Academy events and other partys that I don't know about right now.

You should probably note the type of events I just mentioned. Open mic night where you bring your beats and a live band performs them, Slum Village, Tanya Morgan, Mick Boogie, and Skyzoo all in one spot Tuesday night (that should be fun), a lesser known event with a lot of slept on hip hop crews around here at this spot in the Lower East Side, and Joe Budden with a live band playing at this spot in Chelsea.

I'm sure none of of these events will be well attended

But according to some cats here, the hip hop scene in NYC is garbage and way better in other places right?
