Exactly. This scenario is the exact reason why I hated them giving Phoenix the first-rounder in 2014 for Gortat because it was obvious Gortat was just a rental and there was a possibility a deal like this would become available and now you don't have that pick to include in a deal.

Porter + 2014 1st-rounder would've been a good starting point for a Monroe deal.

I dont think Pistons understand that they have little to no leverage right now. Monroe's deal is expiring and they gave up a large chunk of their cap for the chuck brothers. They fukked up and turning your nose up to Gortat/Ariza/Webster is ridiculous.

They could do nothing with Monroe & match whatever offer he gets even if it's a max offer & their cap isn't changed unless they move Stuckey or Charlie V at the deadline for deals that go beyond this season. His max would be like a little over $13M next year which would have them paying right at what their paying total this year before factoring in options & draft picks. After that it clears up some until Drummond needs to be extended. Their problem is if their really willing to pay Monroe max (if that's what it takes) to be a 3rd option behind Smith & Jennings the majority of the time & not really being able to add the pieces they need before heading into the luxery tax zone.

Man I know its a risk on Monroe's part but I'm starting to think Monroe might take that QO and bounce next season. No one can offer him the max that can use him and I think its pretty clear he doesn't seem to want to re-sign with the pistons
