My boy went to teach English in South Korea. Was young and shook, figured he'd do it 6 months and come back, maybe stretch it out a year, max 18 months. It's going on 18 years. He came back once for his mother's funeral, and once for his sisters wedding. He talks to his pops often, he says "when you pass, to be honest, I can mourn just as well if not better here. I'll send whatever money is needed!"

He's not a c00n, but a realist. It's not paag central and they don't think he's an NBA player or rapper. He's not their monkey or some fetish. He told us It took him over 5 years to adjust. He hasn't been harassed or followed or threatened, never been arrested, doesn't get followed in stores, women don't cross the street or clutch their purses.

He told us, shyt ain't sweet, it's not some fairytale. He has scars and still wakes up thinking he's in America. But things *for him are great enough that he has no plans to return.

He's not scarred by racism or the thought of racism, there's just a certain element that black people are cognizant of. And it's different than just reading the room or getting aware of your surroundings.

The shyt that's not necessarily on the forefront of our minds but in there. Whether it's wearing the right jacket or hoody in the right place at the correct time or being seen as being suspicious or in extreme cases 'dangerous'. Not just walking through a store and picking up, handling a bunch of items cause some worker or better yet a particular business practice thinks "oh, he's going to steal something!" shyts just different there, he's been on buses or subways and never had someone keep an obvious distance from him for fear he's going to rob them or something, in fact in some areas during rush hour mfs will cram in buses and be sitting so close he can't put his own hands in his pockets.

He told me and others that after being there a while he'd have recurring dream where for some reason he's in the states. Kind of like the recurring dream people have where it's time to graduate and there's one paper or final they need to turn in or pass to finish....even though in the real world they've been graduated/finished for years if not decades.

They told them to move and figure it out and then bulldozed that mfer down with little warning.
