Doesn't matter. I'm not the type of dude who gets off on "we aren't the champs, but we were better than last year". I'm the type of guy who is "win it all because nothing else matters". If you don't win it all, you're just as good as everyone else who didn't.

Well, that's a pretty stupid way to look at things.

Unless you're the Lakers or Yankees...and MAYBE a couple other teams, this is a really dumb way to view things.

It's basically checking the validity of common beliefs.

For DECADES in baseball, people believed that sacrifice bunting was a smart play. It wasn't until stat geeks decided to look at it closer that they realized the out was more valuable than the base.

Or it's trying to quantify how valuable particular plays or players are. Like, anyone who watches the game can tell you that Larry Sanders is a better defender than David Lee. The question is, how much better? It takes a much more detailed, analytical look at the game to understand that.

:comeon: nikkas don't care about baseball

keep this strictly football and basketball

I actually hate all these new stats they are creating. Like that QBR shyt ESPN is pushing. I don't even know what it means. They just bring it up like I even understand the context. Just tell me traditional stats that I already know. Like TD passes, INTs, etc.

These all-in-one stats are bullshyt.

Well, you're content with being a loser. I'm not. I have expectations for everything I do. I prefer to be the absolute best at everything I put my hands on.

Soooo....if a QB has more TDs he's better?

Why are people content with being uninformed?

You. Are. An. Idiot.

There is nothing about sabermetrics, moneyball, advanced analytics, or whatever the fukk you want to call it, that makes a team that uses/focuses on them LESS LIKELY to win a title.

fukking idiots all over this thread.

see above.

I don't know about you, but the goal for me, is to win the title, every single time.

Got to be in it to win it. And baseball is less about talent than other sports when it comes to playoff success.

And now with the hard cap in the NBA finding low risk high rewards players to fill your roster is going to be even more important going forward. Lakers penalty tax in the next few years figures to be huge they can't just sign the best free agents with no cap space.

No. I watch the games. I don't need a all-in-one stat to determine whose the best.

I don't have a problem with more information. I have a problem with made-up stats like QBR, PER, or whatever other shyt ESPN will think of next. I can read a box score and tell whether a dude had a good game. I can also watch the game.

I didn't need QBR to know Aaron Rodgers is a monster. I saw him pick apart teams and dominate the traditional stats we all grew up on.

each passing year theres more people who start to take a deeper look into the game, but there always has been, and there always will be the people who use grade school level analysis on sports. the "i watch the games, i see the game with my own eyes i know who is better and i know what goes on" types of people. when something comes along that says your fukking eyes and your way of seeing things could very well be wrong, they always snap back with "the games are played on the field not in a computer you geek" or "stop reading the box score and watch games" instead of actually forming a discussion about the actual merits of the analysis. it wasnt until but a few short years back no one gave a flying fukk about the pace, the # of possessions, the off/def efficiencies, points per possession, efg% etc. theres still people that dont look at numbers like that. its not even anything really advanced, just basic ass statistics.

in the end though no amount of stats can be better than actually watching the game

Thats how you can tell the difference between whether an INT was the QB's fault or the receiver. Thats how you can tell whether a player with 10 assists had a great game playmaking or just had teammates who made alot of difficult shots that night.

All those stats mean nothing if you are not also seeing how they are accumulated.

let's be honest.

no one knows how the old qbr was calculated and people take that shyt as gospel.

who gives a fukk about an assist that might have been credited incorrectly? chris paul's phantom assists in new orleans were constant. does that mean hes not one of the top pgs? what the fukk do assists matter in the grand scheme of things? lol @ using an asscheeks example of that as the reason watching games is better than looking at advanced measures, as if you cant fukking do both. lol @ being able to see "how those stats were accumulated" as if counting stats like assists matter.
