NEW YORK (Reuters) - Working from home does not work for everyone, especially those who want "to hustle," JPMorgan Chase & Co's chief executive said on Tuesday at a conference in New York.

The largest American bank recently told it workers that it expects all U.S.-based employees back in offices on a rotational basis by early July, subject to current public health rules limiting office capacity to 50%.

Bank CEO Jamie Dimon said he wants people back at work because exclusively working from home "doesn't work for young people."

"It doesn't work for those who want to hustle. It doesn't work for spontaneous idea generation. It doesn't work for culture," Dimon said at a conference hosted by the Wall Street Journal.

Dimon said he is open to some employees working from home a few days a week, a policy other banks like Deutsche Bank, HSBC and UBS are reportedly exploring.

But starting on May 17, Dimon said he wants employees bank in the office a few days a week to reacclimate themselves to the workplace after working from home for over a year during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dimon's "get used to it" approach, which could include requiring employees get vaccinated, has faced a backlash. Dimon said he received a "nasty email" from an employee's wife who disagreed with the push to return to work.

"But that's life," Dimon said, saying the bank will be more competitive and work better for clients with employees meeting in person again.

"In my view, September, October, it will look just like it did before and everyone's going to be happy with it."

how many people work from home started a side business?

how many people reduced the time they actually worked by hours?

no telling how many people are being paid to babysit while they work at home.

He's not wrong. Being able to wake up at 8:57 then roll over to your computer and start "working" doesn't really breed a hustling mentality.
Only if you are not a hustler.

I roll over, wake up, login, do my 9 to 5 while chopping clips from my podcast & website design. And clean up my crib in between those two task. And when I'm done with that I watch YT clips on investing and the latest news in bitcoin/stocks while Shannon & Skiyup play in the background.

No one wants to do 2 hour daily commutes, go in a COVID19 environment indoors, being told when to get hungry and eat lunch, being bossed around every minute, and invasive people in your business every day.

In all honesty this is just saying I want to be able to have more control over the employees. I’m
Thinking it’s going to be a competitor that will say if you want to work from home fine...I’m also curious to see if the corporate offices are losing or gaining money due to less people being at work daily.

now of course the local banks need to be open.

he doesn’t care about a hustle or any of that because the ones who are motivated will always be looking for the next step up and move position to position. He just wants control.

NOT. EVERYONE. IS. A. HUSTLER.

Some people are just workers and these companies are ran by hustlers who know these workers need some kind of supervision and discipline given to them.

To be fair though, they are being dramatic. Cause most jobs people know what they need to do and don’t need much of any supervision. I thought he was talking about hitting the next level in your career and career growth, so I thought he was saying you need to be there to network and shyt. But I go up an read the quote from the article in the OP and he talking about generating ideas and being creative. He just being silly if that’s his stance. Cause nikkas can generate ideas in they head at home. Like if you working on a project, I don’t see much difference between being in the office or at work in terms of creativity.
