Cubs going for their first in 100+ years was a great narrative. Had people like me who don't watch baseball tune in and actually watch

This year I didn't even know the playoffs had started till last night. Saw 5 min of game 1 then changed the channel
Yup, it was one of MLBs golden gooses, just like the Boston curse. Now that they're both gone what built in storyline does baseball have other than everyone either hating or loving the Yankees ?

Doesn't matter who's in the SB, people will watch. NBA finals may very well have the same match up for a 4th year in a row and people are still just as polarized by it and will watch. If the WS doesn't have the Yankees no one cares.

Along with the Indians trying to get it done right after the Cavs.

American viewers love heroes vs villains, captivating stories, underdogs and rivalries this series has none of that No matter how hard people try.

Dodgers vs Astros nobody outside of the fan bases really care that's why the execs really wanted Yankees vs Dodgers it had everything even if it needed in a sweep

Villains = Yankees

Captivating Stories = Judge,Puig,Kershaw

Underdogs = Believe it or not the Yankees have been underdogs this year

Rivalry = Yankees vs Dodgers a rivalry that goes back genrations

Yankees being in it doesnt do much for national ratings, late 90s were the worst ratings of the decade and the Yankees were in them.Baseball viewership has just declined alot the last 2 decades in general.

It still led the night. You got to judge ratings relative to what else is on. 10-12 million is actually pretty good.

It isnt good at all, this series is gonna challenge 2012 as the lowest rated World Series ever. When you consider you have 2 of the top 5 markets playing thats not good lol....

The Yankees had a stretch where they won 12 straight World Series games and from 96-2000 after game 2 vs the Braves went 16-1 in World Series games. There were some compelling games in that stretch but knowing the Yankees are gonna win kinda removes the suspense a bit.

It's not just about the markets it's also about how many games it goes that determines ratings. A 4 or 5 game series won't get good ratings no matter who's in it

The Lakers Magic was the lowest rated finals in years so it's not just about having the one big team

Theres no way of effectively using that as a reason im just making the statement that the yankees being in the WS doesnt affect the ratings positively.
The 80s had huge world series ratings when yankees werent in it and werent a playoff team.

Thats false, that series had higher ratings than every other NBA Finals that decade other than previous Finals with LA in them (00,01,02) and had equal ratings to the 08 Finals against Boston.

and theres very little difference in the ratings between 09 & 10 other than Game 7 in 2010 which doubled every other game in the series...

If you look at it relative to what else is on TV most channels would kill to have those ratings week night. The 2012 rating was a non competitive 4 game sweep. If this goes to 7 it has a chance of of maybe getting to 15 or 16 but the World Series averaging between 12-16 million viewers is the new normal.
