Would ‘Juice’ had been a better movie if not for the horror twist ?

I wouldn't say they are straight up overrated, but overpraised. A large reason why baby boy is so revered is that everyone who grew up on BET has seen it and can relate to it to some capacity. Not necessarily the quality.

I haven't ever been to california but I imagine boyz in the hood is the same for folk out there. Not everyone can relate to juice, but it's a very real reality, especially now that it's visible on social media. I think that's why people act funny about it. Juice is definitely a classic, and the best pac film in my opinion.


The very first scene you see him in with his dad sitting in the room you can tell he had some deep issues. Then being bullied on top of that? Takes a rewatch to understand his view

Menace II Society on the other hand is also based in California, and at the same time is one of the greatest movies ever made with the acting, cinematography, storylines, etc etc. And it doesn't need a "It reminds me of California" excuse that Baby Boy and Boyz N the Hood usually get

I don't disagree at all, I'm just going through the reasoning of why it's praised

I also think boyz n the hood came out before all these movies so it has time on it's side

Bishop was always a psycho, his peoples didn't realize until he killed Raheem.
Bishop got excited when Blizzard stuck up the bar and manipulated Raheem to get the gun after:

A couple lines of dialogue after being called crazy again, "I don't give a fukk about you, I don't about Steel, and I don't give a fukk about Raheem, either. I don't give a fukk about myself. Look: I ain't shyt, I ain't never gone be shyt."

Dude sacrificed the crew because he was too weak to do his own dirt and knew it.
Deep down he hated the crew as much as he hated Radames for similar reasons.

Bishop was always a psycho. Some of y'all woulda been food fukkin' with him.​

He lowkey resented the fact that he wasn't the unquestioned leader of his crew and that they did not enforce their will on others like Radames did.

Another thing, if you pay close attention, you could see that Radames would have been food like Bishop was if he didn't have the power of his gang behind him. (PAUSE. )

Bishop was jealous of Radames because Radames had what he desired (PAUSE again ), and Radames gave Bishop problems because he reminded him of himself (a shyt-talking loudmouth that needed a crew/gang to operate).

I’m trying to figure out how Baby Boy is so relatable but Juice ain’t. Juice is actually very relatable, we all just didn’t have a crazy MFike Bishop in the crew. I ain’t ever had a bruh buck naked in the kitchen cooking eggs, never got jumped by lil dudes, etc. Jody was not a tough guy in that movie no matter how hard they tried. It’s one of the greatest unintentional comedies of all time. Like I really don’t think Singleton intended for it to be as funny as it is.

Juice is amazing! It’s one of the few Black movies that addresses mental illness and madness . We don’t have enough movies like this. The trauma of living in the hood has very different effects on different people. Most movies treat Black folks like caricatures with no personality. Juice is one of the only films that bucks that trend. I truly don’t understand why people dislike it.
