No, none of the great players make good coaches because they don't understand the word "cant". It's why the best coaches are almost always some 3rd stringer from a D3 school, or former NBA rotational player.
Yeah this is kinda true, the only example I can think of is Larry Bird who had some success coaching.

Can't see Kobe being a good coach.
He was allergic to anything but ISO ball as a player.
He ran talent away to sooth his ego.
He doesn't understand how to communicate to players.
He is an arrogant and aloof much like Kareem, and I dont see him ever getting a NBA HC job.
I think he would flame out in college as well after a sex scandal.
I don't think he would be a good GM either nor a talent scout.
Might make him a team exec like president of operations or something, but someone not in the day to day basketball decision making process like a gm.

Larry Bird
Isiah Thomas was a good coach when he didn't control personnel decisions
Lenny Wilkens was a top 50 player

Phil Jackson - 6.7ppg

Gregg Popovich - Didn't make it to the league, played for Air Force.

Pat Riley - 7.4ppg

Rick Carlisle - 2.2ppg

Larry Brown - 11.2ppg

Doc Rivers - 10.9ppg

The Van Gundy's - Played college ball

I mean, the list of good to great coaches that were just rotational players, or dudes who didn't make it to the league is staggering by comparison :yeshrug:
