:mjlol: It’s not even just that look at the Super Bowl Mary could only do Family affair I don’t even no why she did no more drama for that type of crowd. Listen I love Mary and one of her songs is going to be one of my songs for my wedding I’m just sayin that Mariah ain’t getting washed by her.
no one is, people are saying mariah would lose this tho...

so you ignore the singles i pointed out that led that album? the album cuts are not what people discuss today. my life? 411? share my world? mary's album cuts from those get plenty of recognition in addition to the singles.

Since when did singles alone make a classic album?

Not a good example. She was only doing "Family Affair" because Dre produced it. That was a Dr. Dre and friends show. Mary could've done an entire set on her own same as Snoop, 50, Em, and even Kendrick.

depends on how the crowd skews but i've never liked this lineup since their music is too different, mariah's music aint as "gritty" as MJB, mariah is better off against janet or whitney

It would actually work, it'll be a great contrast, especially their early years catalogs.

And the one thing about early and Mariah and Mary, lots if remixes.

It'll be dope if sequenced right by people who really know their music.

breh, i'm talking classic that carries forward, there are classics in the moment, which mimi was, it was a comeback album driven by 3 top 5 songs, something she hadn't done in almost a decade, but it's not an album that created music that stayed with us beyond the singles. my life is an album that has transcended 3 generations of black people/women at this point, are you really saying mimi has those same legs?

And this is flawed because that is definitely not what a classic album is. What you're saying is the album isn't timeless by saying it was of the moment .

And I cram to understand why Mary J. Blige and her entire legacy is based upon what she meant to generations of Black women going through something. That's definitely a huge part of her legacy, but as Black male Mary J. Blige fan, I can say that it isn't the totality of her legacy and would go out on a limb and say Mary J Blige was a gateway for a lot of men who didn't necessarily like R&B like that.

BOTH Mary and Mariah get played on Old School R&B stations. Mary and Mariah were both likely to get played on stations that maknly played Hip Hop. I can't really think of two otherfemale R&B artists who would be on a Clue tape.

i am a woman, i can't speak on what that album was to men :comeon:

semantics to your first part, i use classic both ways. either way, Mimi was a huge album at the time, but its legacy is the singles and fly like a bird.

Well, you spoke on what the album meant to people you were around. I think it's safe to say you were around men as well and were able to see that impact as well.

If you're saying something doesn't hold significance beyond a moment, it isn't a classic.
