dilla nor anyone did what Dre did
Dre had the largest COMMERCIAL splash ...ill give u that, but hip hop is way more than that. Did dre have anything to do with Jeru the damaga, the pharcyde, de la, e40, too short, big, and the billions of other great sounds that came outta hip hop:why:...do u know the amount of classics easy moe bee is responsible for on both the east and west coast...do we need to get started on dj premier...dre is not solely the best....we can't even begin to break down Marley marl...

Dre made great music in nearby Hollywood and commercially blew...his touch is timeless flat out and I still check for whatever he touches and is said to even been a part of ...but it's Pandora's box when u start saying best hip hop producer.

What about Houston and Atlanta...

if you have been listening to hiphop for 20 years. then your lying. its a known fact of hiphop that dre's drums are by far the cleanest, thickest, punchyest sounding drums in hiphop. people have been trying to duplicate them for decades. just because you like someone elses drums doesnt mean you have to lie about it. i like timbo too. But no one beats dre's drums in Sound QUALITY.

patterns, it aint him at all. cause we know he has very simple drum patterns. people always get that confused. there's a difference between patterns and the quality of your drums.

look. if dre is the guy so well known for having the best EAR(mixing wise) in hiphop. and he's a west coast producer(we like our drums thick and knocking). odds are he would have the best drum SOUND. so any way you like to slice it. Dre would be that guy.

Then you shouldn't have a hard time posting receipts.

Like i said, never heard the "I wish my drum sounded like Dre's" sentiment before. West Coast aint even about hard drums like that. I've definitely heard the "I wish my mix were clean like Dre's", especially here in Toronto where cats like that clean sound. Melodies clean on some Still DRE shyt. You can hear every note in the instrumentation and it sounds great in the car at all volumes without distortion. That kinda shyt.

But not "yo Dre's got the best drums ever." Especially you saying that all producers were aspiring to this. I don't mind being proven wrong but I gotta see receipts breh

see... when I hear the words "well known" it means "circulated myth with no receipts".

I've been listening to hip hop damn near 20 years, and I've never heard the "Dre has the best drums" story until this morning. I've certainly heard about Dre's mixing, especially for those into clean-sounding music, but I've never heard the "he got the best drums in the game" story.

If anything, I would expect that more from a Timbaland. and again, I know you're not talking drum patterns. But even just the sound of the drums alone. In that department, it's Premo and Timbaland all day.

The 'he has the best drums' thing came from people using his drum pack from Chronic 2001. The album was known for being very 'clean' as far as the mastering. I think Kanye mentioned taking his drums and then it kind of grew legs.

Brian Gardner should get credit as the person along side Dre who mastered the album. That's why it sounds so 'crisp' and where the whole 'he has the best drums' comes from. He may have the best sounding drums but he certainly is not the best producer when it comes to drums.

Great point. So essentially it came from Kanye stannism. Ye lifted those Exxplosive drums and put em on This Cant Be Life. I can't remember where else Ye used those Dre drums, but it was on another joint.

honestly breh, I've never heard the "Dre has the best sounding drums" thing in my life. I'd love to hear a direct comparison between Dre, Premo, Timbaland, Havoc, etc. side by side. just the drum sound.

Exactly. Ye lifted em for the song and then he mentioned it in an interview a really long time ago. This was around the time when 'drum packs' were first getting circulated around the Internet because it was the end of 1999 and people just started to get online in huge numbers. So you had the Dr Dre drums that pretty much everyone used for a while, then people started to use Kanye's drums from around then....whomever was popular at the time..

Timbaland has the best drums. Rza is the best with those strings/piano sounds. Dre at adapting his sound/style. And IMO Chronic 2001 is too loud over all, including those 'perfect drums' :yeshrug:
