I can definitely relate...got out of college right when the recession was starting around 2008.

And I actually did land a job after only a month or two...unfortunately I got laid off after five months. Was unemployed for three or four months and when I did get a job offer, it was for a job that only paid like 30k (but it was the depth of the recession, so I just took what I could get). Was stuck there for a while before I found something better.


Shyt's rough out here. I can't even imagine trying to get a decent job with no experience or degree.

Making $30,000 is pennies. I live in SC and people think folks can survive off of that sh_t down here. Hell, we got rent near my parents and they pay over $1100.

I have student loans and pretty much starting from scratch in life. I need to making at least $45,000 and even nowadays that's below average income these days. Back during our parents days, you can ball off that sh_t. Not anymore.

I had a rough time without job experience when I got out of college in 2010 and people really expected somebody in their 20's to have all this job experience. You had secretary jobs asking for 5-10 years of experience, but would only pay you like $10 an hour. I mean come on...

Employers staying wilin with the entry level requirements. They be like 4 to 5 years of experience in the Russian government. Navy SEAL preferred.

What they don't want to tell you is, "We want a lot of experience, but we want to pay you at entry level."

I graduated high school in 07' and things felt pretty hopeless career wise. Spent a nice amount of time in college waiting for things to pan out and getting a feel for what I wanted to do. I had a few good high paying jobs when I was younger in my early twenties but it wasn't easy and they were few and far between to come by and I also worked pretty crazy hours but I was young and didn't mind. I think one of the saving graces when I was younger was I was able to be on my parents health insurance and it wasn't required to pay for it then. I'm sure if I wanted to work the system and wasn't too proud I could have applied for some type of subsidized health insurance.

I think if you're skilled and or smart and like to work hard there's always a way forwards. I have several friends/people who work for me who are pretty blue collar and they've picked up trades, work a couple jobs and have made nice lives for their families.

I eventually started my own business and there's no turning back so I'm happy now although it can be pretty trying at times and it requires a lot of effort and know how.

What kind of business do you have and where did you get the money to start it?

We're not doomed but we're definitely not gonna get all the benefits that the boomers got. Remember that back then a dude could get a factory or manufacturing job out of HS and support a wife and kids on it. Now? You both need to be working and you both need to be making enough money so that if there are no viable social programs/outlets available or just straight up shyt for your kid to remain mentally and physically stimulated, you will need to be able to afford to pay for something or someone to keep them occupied so they don't end up doing dumb shyt like banging in the streets or just plain old wildin out doing dumb shyt, which kids will always do but now in this social media age...mannnnnnnnnn


The generation after us tho? They are fukkED. And they don't even know it because they haven't even been taught how to identify when they're being fukked because of No Child Left behind and other flaws in the American education system.

You can still get a factory and manufacturing job and support a wife and a couple of kids. There's just not a lot of people with the necessary skills. There are so many boomers retiring within the next 5-10 years and hardly anyone to replace them.

Well I guess that's the real battle we're all facing more or less. Have any ideas on what you want to create yet? If you make the time to start doing the planning stages for the future it's always more likely to come to a reality and makes it easier. Create a business plan, look into how you want it set up LLC, corporation, etc, figure out how much money you'll need.

Not that I disagree with you because I do, but how many people my age, especially young Black People have the money from their parents to start a business? I can understand entrepreneurship for my White counterparts because most of their parents were smart enough to save up money and think about their children's futures, but most Black Baby Boomers didn't do that even when their situation was prosperous for them. They have no wealth to pass on down to us, but expect us to start from scratch. It doesn't quite work like that. Young people need something to build from and many of my Black counterparts don't have that.

I started from scratch. I hate excuses. Though I know many people who feel the same as you. All I can say to this is stop waiting on someone to give you a handout because that's not going to happen. You are of the enlightened generation and it's up to You to start from scratch for your future family to have the same opportunities that are afforded to some white counterparts. Be the change that you want to see, you have no other choice! You can wait around for better days while the people who understand the game we are playing work strategically to make it out here passing you up in the blink of an eye. Next you'll be making up some reason as to why They made it and you didn't. Entrepreneurship must be linked to skill and experience. You can't possibly start a successful lasting business without expertise, experience or credentials...or MONEY! Learn, Save, Invest!! Fund your own dream by any means necessary.

That's my view. That's how I live.

OP trust and believe it's not just you. I been looking to upgrade for 6 months, all moves prior to this only took 3 months. The time it takes to move and shake has doubled. shyt is getting constricted, but there are unseen loopholes.

For example this year I got approved for a $10k SMB credit line but my PERSONAL credit card limit is a paltry $1,5k and I've tried for an increase 2x to no avail in the past 9 months or so despite displaying excellent usage (the ability to pay off $700 a month repeatedly, common sense would dictate that an increase is warranted would it not?). I think that for the average joe not thinking entrepreneurial yeah there is a big shafting coming up. A lot of nikkas gonna see hours cut and blindsided wondering what's going on even though we are not in an official "recession".

There is an unspoken constricting of the market going on. Confidence in U.S. has dropped as well as world markets as an aggregate whole. We're getting fukked up in the game and people too busy drinking Bey Lemonade or doing the Running Man.

But for the entrepreneurial brethren I've been hearing a LOT of buzz going on in the contract and side gig world. A LOT of cash transactions happening and the IRS ain't getting their cut. The middle men like Paypal are raking in - They work out deals with the IRS to get participation up ( you can get 20k in revenue transactions without having to report to them). Think about it 20k untaxable cash except what you pay to Paypal or the middle man plus your base income. For you brehs that earn 40-60k that is a big fukkin bump.

There is an underground SMB economy emerging and dudes is thriving and eating, but it requires networking and hustling and detachment from the 9-5 to a certain degree. So any breh making less than 75k with no potential of making 100k+ i highly advise you to get on LinkedIN start building your personal brand, contacts and connecting with the loudest nikka you know that actually gets contacts with these rich dudes who look for specialists to handle various aspects of their LLCs and corps. They don't like the tax man and neither do you. My boy is looking to hook me up and take some commission off the top in exchange for him handling the sourcing. He knows this rich Italian dude that needs services from my specialty and from what my Woman does too.

90% of this stuff will be "off the grid". Contacts are everything Man. And knowledge is power, GET UP.
