No there really isn't enough black people in the country for black artists to go platinum [1 million+] off of the black dollar alone. There's about the same amount of black people in the US as the total population of Canada. I It would be absurd for Canada with 35 million people to have the same "sales standards/thresholds" as the U.S. with 300+ million people. That's why "platinum" in Canada is 80,000 records sold. If you just want to sell your album to black people, then you should not have the same standards as someone else selling to 200+ million. If Taylor Swift and Adele sold comparatively to the same % to white fans that you guys are asking black artists to do to black fans, they'd be moving like 3+ million copies in the first week.
CDs and Downloads are $10 sometimes even less. And there are literally millions of black American future fans. Snoop's Doggstyle did about 7 million copies in The US alone at like $15-$20 dollars a pop; So are you meaning to tell me black people accounted for less than a million of those sales? If Future going platinum solely from the black dollar is really that far fetched and if so someone needs to inform Nike that the mass purchases of $300-$400 sneakers from black customers With Every Single Release must be imaginary.

I explained it in another thread, simply put, it's combination of numbers, people supporting people who look like them and regional tastes. You're never going to sell millions w/ only black fans. You'll be lucky to go gold:francis:
Amazing read. Tina Marie's career was so rare. Who was the last White artist to have an exclusively Black fan base keep their career afloat? Who was the last White artist to get major play on Urban Radio while being very little known and getting no play on pop radio?

:jbhmm:

That's something you rarely see. And I never knew Madonna, Boy George, and George Michael, all started off with popularity in the urban markets before gaining popularity in the pop markets. I didn't know they were crossover acts.

I don't understand that lady's hype. I don't like Adele's music, I think it's boring. She is also overweight, maybe that's another reason why white people/mainsteam supports her, because she doesn't look like the normal pop star. Just like they support gays.

I think most people only like her because other people like her.

These nikkas on here want it to be EVERYTHING but that SIMPLE thing called "support" literally That's all it is.

Man you gotta be realistic about it though. You got 41 million black people in America ranging from 0 to 100+ years old. The only black people that are gonna cop young thugs music are between 12 - 28 which is what? Something like 20% of 41 million? Which is around 8 million?

Honestly I think I'm being generous about young thugs ceiling here (our any rapper for that matter). The odds are against us

If you ask somebody to play some soul music and they throw on Adele, slap the shyt outta them for disrespecting the soul(BLACK)genre.

Her music aint soul.

Black ppl in their 60s & 70s are the authority on soul music. You throw some Adele on at a function and watch you get a bunch of :what::dahell::pacspit: reactions

Yea, but

im sure there's enough of us to get Thugger (one of the hottest mainstream rappers out currently) a higher number than 20k.

Of course there is

I know you need the white crowd to do Adele #'s but Thugs #'s sounds like a simple case of blacks not supporting.

Most artists across the board aren't selling in large numbers regardless of genre/race.

Not as complicated as yall making this out to be

It really is though

Obviously he doesn't want black people to buy every album. But there is definitely enough blacks in this country for the most popular black artists to go plat off of the black

It's for the same reason(s) there are no Mexican or Latin American musicians doing huge numbers, noone really buys albums on a large scale outside of white people.

dollar alone especially with CD & Download prices being at the absolute lowest they've ever been. There is absolutely no reason for Future, Young Thug, Fetty Wap & Chris Brown to be topping out at 300k sales and that's if they're lucky.

Historically, that's on par with the expected

And no not every black person is going to buy the same music but thats the point there is a great variance in music taste amongst blacks and enough finances amongst those people for black artists of every style of music to eat well and for select black artists to go plat... everytime and solely off the black dollar. We just have to make music valueble to us again if we valued our music like we valued sneakers black artists would never have to pander to white audiences to make money ever again.

Black people's support for an artist/music has never reflected in large albums sales. There is countless evidence of this.

honestly how many blacks will buy her album but won't touch a Jill Scott album.

Not that many. Most blacks that would buy/listen to Adele would support Jill Scott too. Adele is closer to Jill Scott than she is to Rihanna/Beyonce types.
