At no point is the hottest urban artist doing the most units without white support. No rap album ranks in the top 50 best selling albums in the 90s. Appealing to a niche market as a rapper is much smaller than appealing to a niche market as a country artist. Because your niche is still all of red state America. For black artists to do Adele numbers, all black people would have to back them as a block. So what happens if we don't all like Young Thug? Taylor Swift's fan base is greater than the entire black population.
