but it holds alot of truth

This is also true but "Pop" is usually a label most people who think of themselves as serious musicians/artists try to stay away from from.

Very true< I deal with a lot of these types. It's literally a projection of an identity. No different than the kid who's effeminate/goth or gay in an effort to resent their father . . and for every 1 of those you ever here about there's 1000 of them who've never earned a dollar from music . . but they are "real artists" . . real artists writing songs that only matter to them

With his fan base you would think that an album release from him would be like that Back to the Future where Biff basically owns the world, we hear about everything the young man does so why would it be weird to assume that he wouldn't outsell some girl who pops up ever 3 years?

Selena couldn't even do a 100k and she's nearly as prevalent as him.

Attention doesn't=sales.

Artists like Ariana Grande can't even go gold.*

Poor Beyoncé have to shake it and dress like a thot to do half. Be black in America.

She doesn't have to, she chooses to.

Rhianna doesn't dance most of the time and is doing well.

Beyonce's songs are not good enough. She hasn't had a hit song since DC I think. Her most recent songs/album was urban. Not everyone likes urban.

Rhianna makes songs like We found love, Diamonds, and Stay and sells more (singles idk about albums) than Beyonce. Rihanna didn't "dress like a thot" during any of those hit songs videos/performances and she didn't even dance.

Beyonce was not a good example to use at all. You should have just said that black women have a more difficult time in the music industry/America.

Selena's notoriety is derivative of his.

He has to at least do better than Katy Perry. Definitely do better than Miley Cyrus but I'd imagine his team is aiming for him to do Taylor Swift numbers. It's been years since his relevance has been tested in the marketplace and you best believe there's a lot riding on that - if he doesn't do numbers it's evidence of an unsuccessful direction in their investments

His album projection stands at less than one direction who are posed to do mid 300's

I don't think you realize just how big Taylor Swift is

This goes back to point made earlier in the thread about most artists regardless of color/race aren't putting up huge sells like people were doing 10 to 15 years ago.

beyonce's last album was urban? are you serious? her last album was more mainstream and got more attention from white hipsters. that was not an urban album in any way.

dont let drunk in love fool you....one song being urban yet still mainstream....doesn't mean the album as a whole is urban....

go look at those songs on her last album and see that was not urban at all... :camby:

now her follow up album will likely be more urban in the way dangerously in love was in 2003 because she probably thinks she lost respect somewhat in the black community and she wants to go back to her roots...this is just speculation but i have a feeling this is what she is gonna do.

mainstream isn't a genre.

Drunk in love, flawless, yonce, partition, mine, no angel, 7/11. All urban songs.

rocket was the only completely rnb song

There were about 2 pop songs

Dangerously in love Album was (contemporary) rnb, rhythm and blues. Some consider some of the songs pop songs. That album was her best album, and it wasn't urban at all. Beyonce is the most urban album that she has ever done.

People like watching people who look like them. Especially white people, who are used to it. Whereas black people spent a century watching white people in media for instance, white people aren't used to not being the main attraction.

You can call it the Tiger Woods effect or whatever you want, but when a group sees someone in their group doing well in a field that is traditionally run by another group, their interest peaks. White people are going to give Adele attention that they wouldn't give a black girl who looked the same and made the exact same music. It's also why white people loved Larry Bird, Pistol Pete, etc.

It's a numbers game. Whites are the dominate buyer base in this country, and if you get an artist who appeals to a wide range of them you get an Adele or Taylor Swift type movement. Or Eminem. The only black artist who matched that type of hype were Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. Hell acting wise you can throw Will Smith on the list. Politics wise you could throw Obama on the list. In short it's a small ass list.

I got no beef with Adele. She makes good music, can sing, and has a great voice.
