Lotta fathers and sons have this type of relationship. Maybe not that extreme but similar.

Some father and sons connect over talking cars, or football etc. But when it comes to other stuff about life it's different

Doesn't mean they don't love each other.

He's been saying stuff like this for a few years now at this point. He talks as if there really isn't much of a relationship outside of basketball.

I honestly didn't take it that way at all. As a father, I'd be very depressed if my sons felt this way about me.
This. I would wager to believe this is not uncommon for guys that had long pro sports careers though. Not to mention Doc went in to broadcasting then coaching right after his career (or maybe it was the other way around, I don't remember). It's no way you can have a proper relationship with your family if you're on the road all the time. Doc's family lived in Orlando while he was coaching in Boston. That's tough.

Sidenote: I bet MJ's kids feel like they don't know their father as well.

If Doc dropped Austin Rivers from the Clippers in the offseason he'd find a spot somewhere else. Y'all tripping hard on this he doesn't belong in the league shyt.
I've been thinking the samething since last year. Glad somebody said this. I feel people exaggerate how bad Austin is, because they love to overplay that nepotism angle. He isn't great, but there are plenty of guards who get heavy rotation minutes in this league who aren't much better. Austin could easily get minutes elsewhere.
