Wow. Kaiji is one of the REALEST anime I've ever seen.

:wow:

On the surface its about gambling, but it just goes so much deeper than that. It makes you think about the kinds of things that people will do for money, and just how much power these pieces of paper have over human beings. It really makes you question if a price can be put on literally anything. I'm on episode 15 right now and I'm absolutely loving this shyt. I don't even fukk with non-action anime like that, but even I can't deny this is just a well made show in general.

every time you get the slightest bit stressed, you're gonna hear that whispering sound effect in your head. "zawa zawa zawa"

But yeah. It's on my GOAT anime list. I thought I was going to be put off by the artwork, but the story is so intense that you barely notice. You'll never look at Rock/Paper/Scissors the same way again.

If you're bored enough, you should check out the other two anime in the writer's "Gambling" trilogy:

Akagi, which is about Mah-Jong and the criminal underworld. No, you don't have to know how to play to watch it. Akagi is one of anime's great villain protagonists. A cold blooded monster that preys on nothing but other villains.

And One Outs, which is just as much of a mindfukk as Akagi and Kaiji... but is about Baseball. The lead character has an 88 mph fastball and agrees to a contract where he gets 5 million yen for every out he pitches, but loses 50 million for every point he gives up.

Also of note is the fact that the same voice actor is used for all three lead characters. But their personalities and levels of ruthlessness is so different that you'd swear it's three totally different people.

I'm already watching some of one outs. I love characters like Toua. You see them in situations where you're thinking "There's no way he's going to get out of this one." and then he figures out a way and you're just left lookin like :mindblown:

I'll look into akagi, so long as the details of mahjong don't confuse me too much I'll probably like that one too. Kaiji is some quality TV so I know I'll like akagi

it won't. The story starts off with Akagi walking into a mahjong parlor where some gangsters are playng because he's hiding from the cops, so they walk you though as he's learning himself.

Then, it becomes GODLY. :ohlawd::ohlawd::ohlawd:

not a top 10, per se... and not in order.

These three (Akagi>One Outs>Kaiji)

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Steins;Gate
Hajime no Ippo
Serial Experiments Lain
Gurren Lagann
Gundam W
Hellsing Ultimate
Chobits
Mahao Shujo Madoka Magica :to:
Monster
Sword Art Online

Stuff like Code Geass and Death Note should be on there, but... those second seasons and..... questionable "story explaining" episodes really screw them up.

Part of me doesn't like having Kaiji on there. I never finished the series and the second season was kinda ehhhh...... but the premise and execution of the show is so :blessed:
