Lol. No you choose Shaq. You always choose Shaq.

For the same reason they referenced in that Magic Moment documentary:

It's easier to find another SG who could be Penny, but you'll never find another Shaq

Take a 31 soon to be 32 year old center who is breaking down, over the present and future Of the league brehs

Overall a great article that gives great insight on kobe...

It's a sad state reading the current relationship he has with his parents. Hopefully they can reconcile but his moms is dead wrong wanting kobe to pay for a lifestyle her former NBA husband couldn't give her.

One of the most interesting things from the article is kobe's sisters saying once they removed money from the conversation their relationship became better. I wish there were more articles on athlete's talking about the pressures of being 1st generation rich.

Kobe did the right thing telling family members if it's not about money THEN call me. It also made his sisters more self sufficient, more athlete's should take that approach...

It took Pau Gasol to win 2 titles in the last 13 years. One against a (relatively weak) Magic team. The other in 7 games against an aging Celtics team.

I don't understand the logic of some stans here.

Are you fans of Kobe and pushing for him to personally enrich himself? Or are you fans of the Lakers who want to see your team win?

Winning makes money so I don't see how anyone could argue against Shaq. And they arguably would have been much more competitive in this mid 2000 years.

The last 3 years of Lakers teams have been the 3 worst Laker teams of all time. Consider how bad that is. So when I ask "was it worth it?", are Laker fans happy that Kobe is super rich and the Buss family is super rich and the franchise is in shambles from a competitive point of view?

Is that worth one 60 point game that you've all been in your feelings over in the last week?

:ld:
Because I recall you being a somewhat reasonable poster, Im not gonna get all into the extras with the whole "stan" shyt you talking breh. Feel free to look through any post of mine and you'd be hard pressed to find 10 posts talking about Kobe, Lakers or any team other than University of Southern California. I don't get involved in all that shyt.

Back on point, it doesnt matter whether if he had both Gasol's. Unless you are trying to argue that Shaq generated more money for the Heat, Suns, Celtics or Cavs than Kobe did for the Lakers, I really don't see what you are being obtuse about. I clearly said from a financial perspective, it would the right decision. Kobe has generated billions for the Lakers. we are not talking about basketball. We are talking about business.

while I agree somewhat, hopefully Kobe still breaks them off some money a couple times a year.

I mean he's got all the money in the world. If his sisters get in a jam, hopefully he helps them.

Fair enough.

But the implication is that Shaq wasn't going to be as profitable.
I think that's not necessarily true because they could have won more chips with him and that brings in dollars. But whatever.

And if you're a fan, who cares about profitability?
Fans want their teams to win. They don't care if the owner pockets dollars from jersey sales. The cap doesn't increase because x player sold more bobble heads.

:yeshrug:

If the topic is really about Doctor Buss and his business acumen, op could have titled it that way. :coffee:

That wasnt the OP's angle. I think he just posted the article. I don;t want to put words in anyone's mouth. I just spoke on that particular aspect regarding Kobe's quote about them having to pick between the two from a financial standpoint and potential profit margins.

Shaq was paired with 3 separate HOF guards/Wings in his post laker stint (wade, nash, lebron)...all 3 better players than Pau...and came away with 1 more ring

Lakers made the right decision...you don't understand picking a top 10 player entering his prime vs one during leaving his?

Frankly I don't think it the choice HAD to be made at the time. They could have coexisted. But the lakers likely would have not fallen off like they did with Shaq.

For all Kobe stans like to take sides, they conveniently forget that Kobe wanted to jump ship many times ten years ago. Even he surely had doubts/regrets about how that breakup turned out.
