He wasn’t “power” before the election, he was sloppiness, disguised by marketing. :russ:
Elections are contextual, and of the two choices, he wasn't the one who represented the entrenched systemic power I am interested in seeing dismantled.

Despite that fact that even before the election, agents of said systemic power endorsed him?

Hillary Clinton leads by landslide in endorsements, but do they matter?

I'm not looking to relitigate the 2016 election, but the idea that Trump was the establishment candidate is false. In fact, a large part of Hillary's appeal/strategy was that she had garnered endorsements from across the board because Trump was uniquely unpalatable to the establishment.

@theworldismine13 lol McWhorter goes in, I never seen dude so fukking animated and visibly annoyed.

Personally, I think Coates is an amazing writer. As someone who studied English lit, his sentences and use of language is top notch. And I find when he explained his writing style to Alex Wagner it finally made sense why I rock with him even though I disagree with his conclusions. Stanley Crouch is another dude who is a great writer but often has flimsy analysis.

My posts about Trump were made in the context of the election when he was a candidate. I critique power, and he is now power. He has been a far more inept and disgraceful President than I foresaw, and has assumed many of the postures he was campaigning against, but I still hold out hope for the broader underlying potential he has as the destructive/unmasking force I hoped he would be.

I can respect your view. I can't really see how you saw Trump as any kind of good beforehand, but props for not throwing on an orange cape for that idiot at every opportunity.

It was a terrible article, he sounded more like the Charles Barkley/Jason Whitlock types that downplay the impact of race. The analysis is grounded in this particular statement
It is exhibits A through Z of Mr. Coates’s national indictment, proof that the foundations of the United States are anti-black and that the past is not dead — it’s not even past, to echo William Faulkner.
This is the part that unites Normiki Konst and Michael Tracy on the left with Richard Spencer on the right for different reasons. The Konst and Tracy TYT group believe class is superior to race as an explanation for the various social issues they want Dems to address while for Spencer it provides cover for their WS beliefs that are now couched in a lot more sophistry than in the past.

Are you doing well, breh? You made a (fallacious) claim that the establishment endorsed Trump in the 2016 election...and me providing evidence that they, in fact, supported Hillary in the election is "nonsense"?

You are aware there was an election in 2016, right? Trump didn't become President out of thin air, he was elected...as in, people were asked to make a choice between two candidates...one of which was Hillary Clinton...so trying to erase her from analysis of the election and its ramifications is absurd.

Be well, breh.

Anyone who didn't know who Trump was before the election wasn't paying attention or didn't care. Why is the Line drawn now?
He is just doing what he did 10 months ago.

:usure: Let's be honest.
Coates even addressed this in an interview recently.

You're shocked a silver spoon white man known for birtherism, bankruptcy, lynching of Central Park Five, house discrimination and fraud is doing what he always did?

Poor morals and judgement on you all who believe in it.

Stop blaming everything else and man up.

@King Kreole your lack of foresight is astounding.

Foresight about what, Trump's degeneracy? I never believed or stated he was some Man of Morals. And I'm far from alone, even on this very website, by being shocked by the sheer dysfunction and ineptitude of this administration. But I never thought this would be some smooth ride, part of what I hoped Trump would do would be to break shyt. Also I find that charge a bit funny as one of the only people here who foresaw the path through which Trump actually won the election, but that's neither here nor there and I'm not sure what this has to do with TNC anymore...
