Never been a Star Wars fan but I decided to watch the entire franchise now that it’s on Disney Plus and Episode 8 was not just bad, it was surprisingly bad. It felt like a totally different franchise with just the same characters. At least with Lucas’ 6, it was up and down, but it was the same feel and universe

Wouldn't it be easier for them to just shoot existing stories, ones they know the fans like, and bank the money?

I don't care if you like or dislike the new trilogy, I really don't. But I just don't understand why you'd rather have stories you already know retold again in a different medium.

Sometimes it's better to hear/see good old stories than bad new ones. It wasn't so much that they disregarded the expanded universe, but that they did so and replaced it with that. There were some quality stories Ave characters amidst the clutter in some of those books. Could have at least used some of the ideas or characters for inspiration instead of scraping the whole thing with no alternative plan in sight.

For a franchise about a new and different universe to concentrate on the same people/families over and over it's gotten boring. It's not expanding it's contracting especially with the latest tag line for the next movie. I'm barely interested.

This is not a cry about a lack of source material to lift from, but about the pressures in the process involved in developing an original story.

Source material or not, there is no fukking reason to greenlight a script that is as convoluted as the last jedi
That shyt was worse than fan fiction, it was fan fiction by a a fan with an immense ego and no fukking clue how to tell a story. I don't know how much of this is Kathleen Kennedys fault, but she is the C.E.O. of the company and it is obvious that whoever she put in charge of developing these movies fukked up big time
