Yeah that's what I've gathered even from individual matches from each company. AAA seems like it has almost always been trying to copy American sports entertainment lucha or something. But like...worse.

CMLL is the oldest company in existence. It IS traditional Lucha. They beat out all their competition for 50 years before Pena left to start AAA in the 90s. It was always the antithesis/counter culture of the old style of what they considered CMLL, UWA, etc.
