Crazy news. I wonder how this effects Del Rio. Does he get the boot. Also, Cuatrero was released from prison a couple of weeks ago. He was locked up for 2 years without a trial. He was supposed to be released like 6 months ago but the judge was "on vacation" and "couldn't do anything about it". He's still gonna have a trial. Him and his brother did a podcast with a team of lawyers to talk about the situation and have always maintained innocence.

Fans have been shytting on AAA for the past year in a half. Wrestlers talked about how AAA wasn't paying them shyt and Konnan was screwing them over. I'd like to see WWE create a performance center just to get La Hiedra back into pre covid shape. Hopefully Sexy Star 2 comes back as well.

Fightful says Del Rio working with WWE is potentially back on the books after it being a non-starter for years :mjlol:

Fightful reached out to talent who said that there have been conversations about AAA having new partners, equipment and the like for years. However, once the WWE-TKO merger happened, there was a lot of discussion about that partnership being with WWE. There had been conversations between the two sides for quite some time.
Those that we spoke to in WWE said that while the acquisition itself was close to the vest, they believe it was finalized after AEW and CMLL announced their Arena Mexico show.
For those asking about the relationship between WWE and top champion Alberto Del Rio, for years WWE had given everyone a "hard no" on working with Del Rio. Del Rio himself would claim that conversations had taken place, but at points said he would "never" work for WWE again. Those close to Del Rio claim that he's said different, and that the two sides had discussed possible appearances, and that it was no longer "contentious."
Some talent in AAA were even skeptical of the announcement, saying that it's hard for them to believe that the Roldan family would relinquish all power. Details of the acquisition are still few and far between.

Yeah, WWE acquiring AAA ain't a good thing as others mentioned how it'll ice AEW (and TNA by extension, "partnership" be damned) from getting Mexican talent and continue their hostile takeover in the industry. Something that isn't brought up outside of people talking about Vikingo, Laredo Kid is in a duel contract with AAA and TNA for the past four years, meaning unless WWE buys him out of his contract and keep him primarily in AAA, I don't see TNA taking this lightly.

They're not going to stop now as I can see them spinning the block on the UK and try to gain ground in Japan (that's something they'll struggle very hard in). As for the other promotions people have brought up such as TNA, GCW, NOAH and AJPW, it won't happen for various reason:

TNA: WWE had the oppurtunity to get them back in 2015 and 2016, passed up on it. The company went through an successful rebuild and the "partnership" was only formed to stall out AEW's growth and indirectly stall out TNA's growth as WWE really doesn't want both to grow. Unless Anthem doesn't want to be in the wrestling business anymore like how Warner did to WCW, I don't see them getting brought out.

GCW: Unless they want to get into hardcore wrestling, it possibly won't happen and will just keep getting their ID talent on the show like they're doing to other indie promotions.

AJPW/NOAH: Others mention it in the thread, it's not that straight forward and Japan won't let a foreign company buy a home grown company that easily. Plus, all of the japanese promotions will form like voltron and tear WWE up.

Most of the top lucha talent is in CMLL so I don't see how it monopolizes the Mexican scene
And CMLL basically owns all or nearly all the arenas they run in from what I gather, including the Mecca of Lucha Libre in Arena Mexico. So WWE isn’t going to be able to ice them out with exclusivity clauses like they do with some arenas in the US. And obviously CMLL isn’t going to rent their arenas to WWE, that AEW show coming up in June will be the first time an American promotion has ever rented Arena Mexico, for example.

It will hurt all the Mexican companies not named CMLL more than anyone else. Though I’m sure it will no doubt eventually hurt CMLL some, if it lasts long enough. A lot of that will depend on how much WWE is going to be willing to pay AAA talent.

I could easily foresee AEW doing the dual contract agreements with CMLL talent that they are doing with NJPW as Takeshyta and Kevin Knight have contracts with both AEW and NJPW. And I expect those dual contracts with NJPW to become more common. That would be a great way to get them working with both companies and drawing two paychecks, that certainly would be considerably more money than whatever WWE is going to give them to work AAA.

There’s always going to be some that will take that WWE contract because it’s their dream to work in WWE. Nothing you can really do about that.

I’m not sure how soon they’ll be able to start raiding CMLL talent that I had brought up, I don’t know how long those contracts are or if anyone has opt out clauses. Only reason Vaquer got to join NXT when she did was because CMLL let her out of her contract early, which I had forgotten about. Never in a million years is CMLL going to let someone out of their contract early to go to AAA, and I imagine even more so now.

Obviously any non-signed talent with a pulse is probably going to be on the radar, that AAA roster is pretty barren in both depth and talent level. It’s not a complete waste land as there is some quality talent there, but there is not much meat on the bones.
