Don't set yourself up for unrealistic expectations. It's not happening, some people don't see past themselves. Even if she does apologize, at this point, you would really need to question her motivations for doing so and that won't sit with you right either. Is the apology coming from a sincere place or does she want something from you. If time has already passed, it's bc she exhausted her other options and using you as the last resort. Especially if she had nothing to bring to the table, initially. Then you will be in an even worse headspace bc you let her manipulate you.. again.
I think your OP said it all, a lot of women don't come back though, once we're done, we're done. At least IME.

agreed. when it's over, it's over. even if you do try to work it out- it's never the same and you're just delaying the inevitable. But fr fr, once I've mentally or emotionally checked out of a situation - i'm ghosting 4ever.
you can't keep torturing yourself mentally. 
Bolded is facts. I've noticed that most women be at that point(the bolded) by the time the relationship is really over, and they ain't coming back, they're forever ghosting. when a woman's fed up, she is done. On the other hand, IME, a lot of men come back.
They almost always come back.
From my experience at least.
- It's a matter of you treating them right for the most part. Sure you'll do some dirt here and there. But if the way you treat her is good/great 80-90% of the time she'll forgive you smashing a couple of randoms here and there. THey just like to make a spectacle for appearances + their emotional side tends to run wild. But sooner or later they calm down.
- It also helps that many of them think they could "do better" and find another dude only to realize that compared to other dudes you're not that bad. So gotta thank the other brehs for keeping up the mediocrity out there
