A lot of the country only has access to 6mbps service -- imagine downloading a 40GB AAA title ... that shyt would take a few days.

Gamers as a whole do NOT want to go all-digital. Digital is a great option and I personally bought games digitally out of convenience, but I don't want the end of physical. That's part of the whole backlash with Google Stadia. I like physically owning my games, I'm not at the mercy of an internet connection or if in the event that Sony ever in some weird scenario (remember PT?) decided to take it off the PSN Store.

They tracked the data and a large enough one S users only use digital games. So they're testing it out. Likely a compromise between what they already know regarding actual usage and little desire for a brand new all digital Console - - management decision.


I doubt people are willing to pay the one x premium with less features and a price drop would price the one s out of the market, probably the one x as well.

Im seeing the regular S on sale for like 180, why would i get this?

250 is the MSRP.

Major Nelson pretty much explicitly said this box will usually be around 50 dollars cheaper than the regular S most of the time, so this will get a deep sale fairly soon I'd reckon.
